İsrail'in 1915 Kararına Ankara ve Bakü'den Sert Tepki: 'Kendi Suçunu Örtbas Çabası'
İsrail hükümeti, Dışişleri Bakanı Gideon Sa'ar'ın girişimiyle 1915 olaylarını 'Ermeni soykırımı' olarak tanıdı. Karar, İsrail'in Gazze'deki askerî operasyonları nedeniyle Uluslararası Adalet Divanı'nda soykırım suçlamasıyla yargılandığı bir dönemde alındı. Türkiye, bu adımın tarihî gerçeklerle bağdaşmadığını ve İsrail'in kendi suçlarını örtbas etme çabası olduğunu savundu. Dışişleri Bakanlığı, İsrail'in Filistin halkına yönelik sistematik zulmünü vurgulayarak kararı siyasi ve geçersiz saydı.

Azerbaijan slams ally Israel's recognition of Armenian genocide
Azerbaijan on Monday denounced a decision by its ally Israel to recognise the World War I massacres of Armenians as a genocide, a move widely seen as a rebuke by Israel to Turkiye. Azerbaijan and Israel are allies but Baku’s closest foreign partner is Turkiye and the Caucasus country hinted that the move by Israel could hit their bilateral relations. The recognition by Israel — announced on Sunday — was of “serious concern”, Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry said in a statement. Armenia has long sought international recognition that the mass killings under the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1917 amounted to a genocide, in which 1.5 million people died. Turkiye strongly denies the accusation of genocide and says that both Armenians and Turks died as a result of World War I. It puts the death toll in the hundreds of thousands. More than two dozen countries, including the United States, France and Germany, recognise the killings as a genocide. “Such actions do not contribute to reconciliation or mutual understanding,” Azerbaijan said of Israel’s move. “Instead, they deepen existing divisions and undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region. We call on the Israeli government to reconsider this decision,” the foreign ministry added. Azerbaijan and Israel cooperate extensively on defence and security measures. Successive Israeli governments had avoided formally recognising the Armenian genocide, in part to preserve relations with Turkiye, once one of Israel’s closest strategic partners in the region. But since the war in Gaza erupted, Turkiye has regularly accused Israel of committing genocide in the Palestinian territory, an accusation Israel strongly denies. Azerbaijan and Armenia, locked in conflict for decades over the status of Karabakh — an Azerbaijani exclave ruled for three decades by Armenian separatists — have started ratcheting down tensions and taking steps towards finalising a comprehensive peace deal.

Israeli attacks leave 8 dead in Gaza
GAZA CITY/GENEVA: Gaza’s civil defence said Israeli attacks killed eight people in the Palestinian territory on Wednesday. Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for the civil defence agency, which acts as a rescue force under Hamas, said that the eight people were killed in Israeli attacks including airstrikes and gunfire. Nasser Hospital in south Gaza’s Khan Yunis reported receiving four people killed in an airstrike on a tent sheltering displaced people. The victims were aged between 10 and 39, and included one woman, the hospital said. The hospital also received the body of Ahmad Salim, a truck driver who was killed by Israeli fire in Al-Mawasi, in southern Gaza. UN inquiry urges release of doctor detained since Dec 2024 The Israeli military said Salim ran towards soldiers who were questioning other truck drivers, adding that troops opened fire at him “after perceiving an immediate threat”. Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City said it received the bodies of two people: a child killed by Israeli fire east of the city and a man killed in an airstrike west of the city. It also said it had received the body of a man killed in an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in Gaza City. Israel’s military confirmed that it conducted an airstrike there. The military said it was looking into the other incidents. Israel and Hamas trade near-daily accusations of truce violations and the Gaza Strip remains gripped by bloodshed as progress on permanently ending the war remains stalled. UN inquiry A United Nations inquiry on Wednesday expressed concern at reports of abuse against a prominent Palestinian doctor seized by the Israeli military in Gaza in December 2024 and still being held in Israel and urged his release. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, called for the immediate release of Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip. Rights groups and Abu Safiya’s lawyer have said his life is in imminent danger, and he continues to be held without charge, according to the Physicians for Human Rights Israel, an Israeli rights group. “The actions of the Israeli Prison Service guards towards Palestinian detainees raise grave concerns of violations of international law that likely amount to international crimes. Dr. Abu Safiya’s medical condition is the direct result of these actions,” the UN inquiry said in a statement. An Israel Prison Service spokesperson said on Wednesday: “The allegations and characterisations described are false, outrageous, and entirely without factual basis.” The spokesperson did not name Abu Safiya, but the IPS has previously rejected allegations that he and other doctors have been mistreated in prison. On Monday, Abu Safiya’s lawyer alleged that his health was in danger and that he had been subjected to abuse daily. In June, Abu Safiya attended a Supreme Court hearing in Jerusalem via video link and appeared noticeably thinner in the face and around his abdomen. The UN inquiry said the reported conduct of the Israeli authorities towards Abu Safiya reflects a broader pattern of violations that it identified in previous reports. In September 2025, it said the Israeli authorities had committed genocide by targeting the healthcare system and medical professionals in Gaza since October 2023, an accusation that Israel described as scandalous. Israeli attacks kill six in Gaza
GAZA CITY: Gaza’s civil defence agency and health officials said Israeli attacks killed six people across the Palestinian territory on Thursday. A ceasefire is in place in the Israel-Hamas conflict, but it has not ended the violence in Gaza and progress towards a final deal to end the conflict has stalled. Gaza’s civil defence said six people were killed in Israeli drone strikes and gunfire. Two people were killed and several others injured when an Israeli drone struck central Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, said the agency, which operates as a rescue service under Hamas. Four other people were killed in other attacks, it said. Gaza hospitals confirmed receiving the bodies of six individuals killed in the attacks. A security source in Gaza said an Israeli drone strike targeted the vehicle of Hazem Qassem, a spokesman for Hamas. Qassem was not in the vehicle but the strike killed his bodyguard, the source said. The bodyguard was among the six fatalities reported by the civil defence agency. At least 1,092 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect in October last year, according to the territory’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations. The Israeli military says it has lost five soldiers in Gaza over the same period, as well as one civilian contractor. Restrictions imposed on media outlets and limited access in Gaza prevent reporters from independently verifying tolls or freely covering the violence there. Published in Dawn, July 10th, 2026

Families claim bodies as Bangkok fire toll rises to 30
Grieving relatives of the victims of a huge Bangkok bar fire claimed their bodies on Tuesday as the death toll rose to 30, even as others held out hope that missing loved ones were alive. Flames tore through the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar and restaurant in the Thai capital late on Sunday evening during a live music performance, sending people fleeing, several with their clothing ablaze. Twenty-seven people were declared dead in the early hours of Monday, with another succumbing to their injuries later that day. By Tuesday morning, Bangkok’s Chatuchak district office put the death toll at 30, with 75 people injured — 24 in critical condition. Relatives of the dead gathered at Police General Hospital on Tuesday to claim the bodies of their loved ones. At the rear of the hospital, grey coffins with gilded bas-reliefs emerged before the cameras of dozens of journalists. Some coffins were loaded into the back of ambulances to be transported to the home provinces of the deceased. Inside one, a man held an incense stick over a coffin. In another, a grey-haired woman laid one hand atop the coffin while she dabbed her eyes with a tissue. A relative (R) mourns next to a coffin bearing the remains of a victim killed in a bar fire, inside a hearse at the Police General Hospital in Bangkok on July 14, 2026. — AFP Nuttakarn “Mint” Sevoy, 30, came for her childhood friend Top Sarobol who, like many killed on Sunday night, is believed to have died from smoke inhalation. Nuttakarn told AFP the family consider themselves “fortunate that they were able to verify his identity accurately because his body wasn’t burned to the point of being unidentifiable”. But the family, particularly his grandmother, was struggling with his loss. “She kept saying that it should have been him to cremate her… (he) should be the one attending her funeral, not her coming to pick up her grandson’s body like this,” Nuttakarn said. Jarunee Phosawad came from Roi Et in eastern Thailand to oversee the cremation of her cousin Kochaporn Sotharat’s body and the return home of her ashes. “She was a joyful person,” the 46-year-old told AFP, adding: “I felt cold when I heard she was dead.” Kochaporn was a single mother of a daughter who also came to Bangkok to do a DNA test, Jarunee said. “I do not know how she will live after this; she had only her mum.” ‘Holding onto hope’ For others, there is still hope. Booyaporn Sermsiri was at the hospital searching for her 25-year-old daughter, Jarawee “Cartoon” Sermsiri, who remains missing. “Since we haven’t found her yet, we can only wait. We are holding onto hope,” she told AFP. She said Cartoon’s friend had called her early on Monday morning, saying there had been a fire and she couldn’t reach her. Booyaporn, 51, said she had given a DNA sample and was told by police the result could come back later Tuesday. “I am praying. Praying that she is alright,” she said. Forensic police have been scouring the wreckage as authorities seek to establish how the fire started and why it was so deadly, looking at a possible electrical fault and also whether emergency exits were blocked. Several witnesses have said they saw smoke inside before midnight and the lights went out, followed by an explosion and intense flames that sent patrons fleeing. Relatives of the victims and those who survived the fire visited the blackened bar on Tuesday, some laying garlands and praying for the dead. Relatives of a victim of a bar fire pray in front of the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar in Bangkok on July 14, 2026. — AFP Usa Tadsri, 40, made it out alive, but two friends who were with her died. Namtip Tubsook and her husband Suwitcha Sirililung left behind two children, aged four and five, who are now being cared for by their grandmother, Nid. “We were only looking to enjoy ourselves, but we ended up trapped in a disaster,” Usa told reporters.

Meeting with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had a meeting on the sidelines of the 22nd Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum to discuss Russia-Kazakhstan regional and international cooperation. Prior to the meeting, the two leaders examined information stands on cooperation between the two countries. Explanations were provided by Deputy Prime Minister, Russian Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan Alexei Overchuk and Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Artificial Intelligence of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiyev. * * * President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr Tokayev, Friends, We are all happy to welcome you to Omsk, Russia. It was here that the first Forum of Regions was held in 2003, and since then work in this area has continued and made a significant contribution to the development of bilateral relations. Our relations are progressing successfully. They are indeed – not in words, but in deeds – of a strategic nature. This is evidenced by the growing trade. Last year, it was almost US$28 billion, 27.8, to be exact, which is fairly good. And in the first five months of this year, it has added over 4 percent, at least according to our statistics. This is a good momentum which shows that we have good prospects, and these prospects are determined, among other things, by investment. Investments today create conditions and benchmarks for the future. In fact, here too we have things to be proud of: we have 70 projects involving Russian enterprises and Russian businesses, totalling around US$30 billion. In this sense, Russia is the largest investor in Kazakhstan’s economy, working in a wide range of areas. Our relations are well diversified and cover the metallurgical industry, engineering, energy, pharmaceuticals, and a number of other areas. Our cooperation in terms of humanitarian ties is also very important. Of course, education is a priority here. Thousands of Kazakhstani citizens study at Russian universities. I want to point out that right here, in Omsk, a branch of the Kazakh National University has opened. We are grateful to you that Russian students have been granted 100 state scholarships – actually, they study for free. We actively cooperate in the world arena; we take most active part in all our regional organisations. This year, Russia chairs the CSTO, and Kazakhstan holds the chairmanship of the EAEU. We have something to talk about and align our positions here too. Direct ties are developing very actively. Our work at the regional level is also very important in this regard. I want to thank colleagues on both sides for their active work. Today’s event is attended by 650 participants, including high- and central-level politicians, governors from both sides, regional leaders, and entrepreneurs. I know that a number of agreements have been prepared and will be signed, as is always the case at events of this kind. Once again welcome, we are glad to see you. I know that you visited a hospital this morning. Omsk for you is not an ordinary place in Russia. I will also speak about it when we talk with the colleagues. President Tokayev’s father was treated here after being seriously wounded in the winter of 1945. This highlights one again the importance we give to preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the contribution of our nations to the victory over Nazism. Mr President, we are happy to see you. President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: Thank you, Mr President, for inviting me to the lovely city of Omsk which holds a special place in Russian history and plays a major role in promoting cooperation between our nations. I literally travelled from Astana to Omsk in a little over 40 minutes, both cities are very close to each other, they are border cities. As it was rightly said today, Kazakhstan and Russia share the longest continuous border in the world. Therefore, this is a border of friendship and cooperation. You said everything right. Indeed, we are very large trade partners. In 2025, our trade amounted to about US$28 billion. Meanwhile, this year’s trends are extremely positive: compared to the five months of 2025, mutual trade showed a good growth in these five months. As for investment, in fact, Russia is coming out on top among investors in our economy. The amount of investments has reached almost US$30 billion. Interestingly, we have jointly selected a pool of 177 promising industrial projects, and 122 of them have already been implemented, while these 177 projects total US$53 billion dollars. This is a significant amount, given the current turbulent geopolitical situation. I would also like to note that we are actively working in the humanitarian field. You mentioned the opening of a branch of the Kazakh National University. This is the first foreign branch of our university, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you, Mr President, for supporting this project, as well as all other projects, because nothing would have been possible without your political will. And I would certainly like to praise your Government’s active efforts in this area. Regarding education. You said quite correctly that we have high hopes for the Sirius project – the construction of two schools has been launched in Almaty and Astana. As for space, it is a traditional sphere of mutual attraction, and we are actively collaborating. A joint space launch was made. Our respective agencies are actively cooperating with each other, and there are no serious issues. I would also like to note the constructive work of the respective Russian agency. To be continued.

22nd Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum
Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the plenary session of the 22nd Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum, Forming a Global Logistics Ecosystem: New Horizons for Russia-Kazakhstan Cooperation. The Forum is being held in Omsk on July 24–25. Its participants include deputy prime ministers, heads of ministries and departments, heads of constituent entities of the Russian Federation and regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of the parliaments, business and expert communities of both countries. * * * President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr President, colleagues, friends, Allow me to warmly welcome you all once again in Omsk, Russia. This is the 22nd Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum. And, as I have just said at our bilateral working meeting, the first such forum of regional representatives from our countries took place right here, in Omsk, in 2003. Since then, such fora have become a good tradition and are being held regularly. I was just recalling one thing: we know that President Tokayev was delighted to visit Omsk also because, in the winter of 1945, his father, Kemel Tokayev, was treated in a military hospital in this city, after being seriously wounded at the front. This is what I wanted to say in the beginning, and, if I may, I will make my small introduction right now and then give the floor to the President of Kazakhstan. This time the forum has brought together over 650 representatives of Russia and Kazakhstan, including heads of Russian constituent entities and Kazakhstan regions, deputy prime ministers, heads of ministries, members of parliament, entrepreneurs, experts – in short, all those who are deeply involved in the practical development of bilateral relations in the economic, political and social spheres. I would like to highlight that during the talks we just had with the President of Kazakhstan, we highly appreciated the active involvement of the regions in advancing the full scope of the Russia-Kazakhstan partnership. It is largely thanks to the coordinated efforts of regional authorities and businesses that trade is picking up and mutual investment flows are increasing. Thus, in 2025 our mutual trade reached almost US$29 billion, and the amount of Russian investments in Kazakhstan’s economy exceeded US$30 billion. To be continued.

Kazakistan Cumhurbaşkanı Tokayev, Putin ile görüştü. Ukrayna'da "İstanbul müzakerelerine dönülsün" önerisi
Kazakistan Cumhurbaşkanı Kasım Cömert Tokayev, Rusya ile Ukrayna arasındaki savaşın dondurularak, başta Türkiye'nin arabuluculuğunda yürütülen müzakerelerde elde edilen sonuçlar temelinde "İstanbul formülü 2.0"a dönülmesini önerdi.

MOSCOW: At least 16 people were killed in Ukrainian and Russian strikes on Saturday, in a deadly fifth summer of war as both sides intensify attacks, with diplomacy at a deadlock. Ukrainian drones also targeted a Siberian oil refinery and the Urals city of Yekaterinburg, escalating strikes deep inside Russia — which it says are aimed to weaken Russia’s war effort and force the Kremlin to negotiate. The deaths — in Russian-occupied Ukraine, north-eastern Ukraine and Russian border villages — come as the UN has warned of civilians dying in larger numbers recently in the almost 4.5-year war. US-led talks on ending the fighting are at a deadlock, with Washington focused on the Middle East and Moscow intent on seizing the whole of eastern Ukraine. Russian occupational authorities in southern Ukraine said a Ukrainian strike on an Azov Sea village killed eight people, including two children. Kazakh leader tells Putin war should end Yevgeny Balitsky, the Moscow-installead head of the Russian occupied part of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, said Kyiv had struck “tourist camps” in the seaside village of Kyrylivka. Balitsky said the strike also wounded 14 people in Kyrylivka — seized by Russia in the first days of its offensive. Kyiv has not yet commented on the strike. Ukraine has intensified attacks in the Azov Sea in recent weeks, targeting Russian ships there. ‘War should end’ Kazakhstan’s president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev told Russia’s Vladimir Putin that fighting in Ukraine should “be stopped”, calling for the conflict to be “frozen”, in a rare face-to-face comment to the Russian leader. “How to get out of this situation? Nobody knows, because there are the positions of both sides. But, on the other hand, there is such a moment and possibility to freeze all this,” Tokayev told Putin at a Russian-Kazakh summit in Siberia’s Omsk, adding: “It is a shame, young people are dying… All this has to be stopped.” Siberian oil refinery hit Kyiv, meanwhile, said a Russian drone strike on its private courier service Nova Poshta in the north-eastern city of Sumy killed three drivers. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was a “double-tap” drone strike. Two more people were killed in southern Ukraine, Kyiv said, as Moscow reported two villagers killed in border areas and one more person in the occupied part of Ukraine’s Kherson region. Far from the battlefield, Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Siberia’s Tyumen region, more than 1,000 miles east of Moscow, in one of its furthest hits so far. Ukraine’s strikes deep inside Russia have caused fuel shortages and disrupted ordinary life in Russia more than at any point during the 4.5-year war. The governor of the Tyumen region, Alexander Moor, said a Ukrainian drone fell “on the territory” of an oil refinery, causing a fire. Moscow said Ukraine had launched more than 300 drones into Russian territory, including on regions far from the border. Zelensky announced Kyiv had also struck a factory in Kirov — hundreds of kilometres east of Moscow — for the second day in a row, a day after a deadly strike there. Published in Dawn, July 26th, 2026

Ukrayna'dan 'İstanbul Formülü 2.0' mesajı! Tokayev'in Türkiye önerisine yeşil ışık
Ukrayna Dışişleri Bakanı Andrii Sybiha sosyal medya hesabından yaptığı yazılı açıklamada, Kazakistan Cumhurbaşkanı Tokayev'in, Rusya ile Ukrayna arasındaki savaşın dondurularak, Türkiye'nin arabuluculuğunda yürütülen müzakerelerde elde edilen sonuçlar temelinde "İstanbul formülü 2.0"a dönülmesine yönelik çağrısını değerlendirdi. 10 killed as Russia rains missiles on Kyiv
• 30 wounded as missiles, drones hit five districts • Ukraine claims sinking Russian ship in Black Sea • Zelensky renews plea for air defence systems; Trump cautious over request for Patriot production licences KYIV: Russian attacks on Kyiv and its suburbs killed 10 people early on Saturday, officials said, as Ukrainian drones sank a huge Russian container ship in the Black Sea and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed for more air defences. The exchange of strikes comes amid a prolonged lull in US-led talks aimed at ending the conflict, Europe’s deadliest since World War II. Both Moscow and Kyiv have escalated long-range attacks on each other in recent weeks, with Russia more than doubling its use of missiles last month, according to an AFP analysis. Civilian casualties in Ukraine have meanwhile soared to their highest since Russia invaded in 2022, according to UN human rights monitors, with Kyiv pressing its allies to provide more air defences. In a statement on social media, Mr Zelensky appealed for supplies of Patriot air defence systems, Kyiv’s only effective counter against Russian ballistic missile attacks. “It is this shortage of ballistic missile interceptors that only encourages Russia to launch such attacks that take human lives,” Mr Zelensky said in a post on X. More than 30 people were wounded in Saturday’s attacks on Kyiv, which struck five districts of the city, Ukrainian authorities said. Among the buildings damaged was the embassy of Lithuania, with the Baltic country’s foreign minister publishing images appearing to show a cracked door and damaged light fixture. Journalists reported hearing more than 10 explosions in a row early on Saturday, triggering car alarms on the streets as dark clouds of smoke rose over Kyiv. In Kyiv’s eastern Darnytsky district, the attacks damaged multiple buildings and vehicles, with authorities reporting seven people killed and 14 wounded. Two people were killed and eight others were wounded in the western Solomiansky district, where strikes damaged a five-storey residential building. One other person was killed in an attack on the Kyiv suburb of Brovary, authorities said. “Everything was smashed, the windows, everything,” 75-year-old resident Kateryna Kravchenko said of her apartment. “I can barely stand. I don’t know how I’m going to get through all this.” Another resident, 46-year-old Oksana, said her plan was to leave. “You can’t stay here after something like this. … What guarantee is there that it won’t happen again?” Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had struck “military-industrial complex enterprises and logistics centres”. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones sank a Russian-owned container ship in the Black Sea early on Saturday, forcing its 17-member crew to abandon the vessel. The Russian-flagged Yanina, owned by the shipping arm of Russia’s state-owned nuclear power operator Rosatom, was sailing near the Russian port of Novorossiysk when it was hit. The ship was carrying civilian goods including frozen food and construction materials. “All 17 crew members have been rescued and are in good condition,” Rosatom said in a statement on Telegram. Mr Zelensky confirmed Ukraine was behind the strike in a post on X, describing it as a “sanctioned Russian container ship”. Both Ukraine and Russia deny targeting civilians. Meanwhile, the Ukranian president had met with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday for talks, partly to lobby Washington for licences to produce Patriots domestically. But the US president appeared to express reservations on Friday, saying that Washington would have to be “very careful” about the decision. Published in Dawn, August 2nd, 2026

At least 7 killed, 20 injured in suicide attack on Kabal police station in Swat
At least seven people were killed and 20 others injured in a suicide attack outside the gate of Kabal police station in Swat on Sunday, police said. According to the Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Khan, the suicide bomber detonated explosives after police personnel attempted to stop and search him at the entrance of the police station. Swat’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Fida Hussain told AFP that the seven deceased included four police officers, with 20 people injured. Earlier, DPO Khan had also confirmed that seven people were killed, adding that the police remained on high alert. “Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is underway to collect further evidence,“ he added. The explosion occurred near the gate of Kabal Police Station while hundreds of people were participating in a public demonstration at the nearby Kabal Chowk, against the recent wave of terrorism in the Swat Valley. The powerful blast caused multiple casualties, prompting an immediate emergency response by police, rescue teams and local authorities. The injured were shifted to nearby Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital for treatment, while security personnel sealed off the area and launched a search operation. The protest had drawn a large crowd from across the district and the attack occurred as the final speaker was addressing the crowd, triggering panic among participants. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Addressing the gathering before the blast, the speakers condemned the resurgence of terrorism in Swat and demanded that the government ensure lasting peace. They said their movement had a single agenda: the restoration of peace and the elimination of terrorism from the region. The speakers stressed that maintaining law and order and eradicating terrorism were the state’s responsibility, warning that continued insecurity could trigger widespread public unrest, citing recent protest movements in other countries as examples of growing public frustration. The speakers also criticised the authorities for what they described as action against peaceful citizens while terrorists continued to operate in the mountainous areas of Swat. They alleged that terrorists had openly circulated videos on social media and questioned why stronger action had not been taken against them. “Our children deserve education, and our families deserve to live in peace,” one speaker told the gathering. “We have witnessed years of bloodshed. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters have suffered immensely, and we do not want another generation of widows and orphans.” Condemnations pour in President Asif Ali Zardari expressed sorrow over the loss of life and called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident, according to a statement issued by his office on X. President Zardari directed the relevant authorities to provide the best possible medical facilities to those injured. “Terrorists will never succeed in their nefarious efforts to undermine peace, national unity and the writ of the state,” he was quoted as saying. He added that the sacrifices of the KP police were “a source of pride for the entire nation”. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the blast. “Terrorists cannot demoralise the nation with cowardly attacks,” Kundi was quoted as saying, as per a statement. KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, condemning the incident, sought a report from the KP Inspector General of Police (IGP) and offered condolences to the families of the deceased. “The elements hostile to peace will never be allowed to succeed in their nefarious intentions,” the chief minister was quoted as saying. Earlier in the day, an IED blast near the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway toll plaza injured two policemen in the provincial capital Peshawar. On July 30, a terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Hangu martyred nine policemen. KP has seen an uptick in terrorist activity. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies’s monthly security assessment, KP, excluding the merged districts, recorded 154 terrorism related deaths in July, compared with 75 in June, representing an increase of 105 per cent.

At least 14 people, including police officials, martyred in suicide attack on Kabal police station in Swat: police
At least 14 people, including police officials, were martyred and 22 others injured in a suicide attack on Swat’s Kabal police station on Sunday, police said. Swat police spokesperson Nasir Iqbal Karimi, while speaking to Dawn, confirmed the death toll. Malakand Deputy Inspector General of Police Fida Hussain told AFP that police officers were among those martyred. He added that 22 people had been wounded and another body, suspected to be that of the bomber, had been brought to hospital. According to the Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Khan, the suicide bomber detonated explosives after police personnel attempted to stop and search him at the entrance of the police station. The DPO said that the police remained on high alert. “Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is underway to collect further evidence,“ he added. The explosion occurred near the gate of Kabal police station while hundreds of people were participating in a public demonstration at nearby Kabal Chowk against the recent wave of terrorism in Swat Valley. Police officials inspect the site following a suicide bombing during a protest in Swat district on August 2. — AFP The powerful blast caused multiple casualties, prompting an immediate emergency response from police, rescue teams and local authorities. SWAT: The death toll from Sunday’s suicide bombing near a police station in Swat rose to 17 on Monday, while the funeral prayers of two policemen martyred in the blast were also offered. The suicide bombing had taken place near the Kabal Police Station while a protest against lawlessness was under way at the adjoining public square. Police said that the suicide bomber had detonated his explosives after police personnel attempted to stop and search him at the entrance to the police station. According to a list of casualties shared by Swat police spokesperson Nasir Iqbal Karimi, seven policemen and 10 civilians have lost their lives in the incident while 18 policemen and nine civilians have been injured. The death toll has been revised down from an initial tally of 19 that the police spokesperson shared earlier in the day in a statement. Karimi said that a large-scale rescue operation had been launched immediately after the attack, in which more than 50 Rescue 1122 personnel participated. “Rescue teams provided first aid at the scene before shifting the injured to various hospitals for further treatment. Authorities are continuing relief efforts as investigations into the suicide attack remain under way,” it said. In a separate statement, Swat police said the funeral prayers of two policemen martyred in the suicide attack were held at Javed Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines on Monday. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour to Constable Mukarram Khan and Constable Hussain Khan, and floral wreaths were laid on their coffins. The ceremony was attended by Malakand Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Fida Hassan Shah, Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar Khan, Superintendent of Police (operations) Ghulam Sadiq Khan, Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Ataullah, and other senior police officers. Security personnel and law enforcers have been coming under attack in KP, which continues to face terrorism. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies’ (PICSS) monthly security assessment released on Saturday, Security personnel deaths in terrorism incidents in KP, excluding merged districts, increased from 12 in June to 38 in July and terrorist deaths from 37 to 108, reflecting a rise by 192pc. But civilian deaths fell from 26 to seven, a decline by 73pc. One peace committee member was also killed. Security personnel deaths in merged districts rose from six to 11 and terrorist deaths fell from 72 to 55. Civilian deaths, meanwhile, rose by 86pc, increasing from seven to 13. CM visits Swat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached Swat on Monday to meet with the martyrs’ families. He was accompanied by Special Assistant for Home Affairs Tariq Saeed, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah and the KP inspector general (IG) of police, according to a statement issued by the CM office. In Swat, he visited Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital in Saidu Sharif and inquired about the health of those injured in the suicide attack. The chief minister directed the hospital administration to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment to all the injured, the statement said. It added that the CM also chaired a high-level meeting at the Jirga Hall in Saidu Sharif. At the meeting, which was also attended by senior officials, the CM was briefed on the overall law and order situation in Malakand Division and its Swat district. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace, the chief minister said there would be no compromise on law and order in Swat and Malakand. He directed the relevant authorities to launch a full-scale operation against terrorists and ensure that peace and stability were restored. Meanwhile, KP Inspector General of Police (IG) Zulfikar Hameed visited the injured personnel and civilians in the hospital, according to a post on the KP Police’s X account. “Our police personnel have high morale. The cowardly attacks of terrorists will be given a befitting response,” he is quoted as saying. Lawyers, traders observe strike Lawyers across Swat and Upper Swat observed a complete strike on Monday to condemn Sunday’s suicide bombing. Court proceedings remained suspended as members of the legal fraternity expressed solidarity with the victims and called for stronger measures for eliminating terrorism. A shutter-down strike was also observed across Kabal tehsil, where markets remained closed. Separately, elders of the Swat Qaumi Jirga, traders, lawyers, and youth representatives have announced a protest demonstration at Nishat Chowk in Swat’s Mingora on August 7 to condemn the recent wave of terrorism in the region. The organisers said the planned demonstration was aimed at expressing solidarity with the victims of terrorist attacks. It was being organised to demand lasting peace and urge the government to take decisive action against terrorist groups operating in the area, they said.

Swat bombing
IT is a bitter irony that terrorists struck a protest against violence in Swat on Sunday, causing at least 17 fatalities. Both policemen and civilians were martyred in the atrocity. Reports indicate that a suicide bomber blew himself up near a police station as the anti-terror protest was underway when officers tried to search him. Some media outlets have said the banned TTP has claimed responsibility for the bombing. This bloodbath should lead to thorough counterterrorism action, as the people of Swat — and indeed the rest of KP — deserve to live in an atmosphere free of terrorism and violence. Unfortunately, as pointed out in an exclusive report published in this paper, gaps in training have left LEAs in KP vulnerable to ‘double-tap’ or ‘two-stage’ attacks by terrorists. Moreover, the casualty numbers from July, and the first half of 2026, indicate that a fresh CT strategy is needed to bring down the number of fatalities, and effectively neutralise the threat of terrorism. The fact is that terrorists appear to be operating without fear of consequences, while LEAs are unable to stay ahead of them. A string of recent ‘two-stage’ attacks in KP illustrate this point. The terrorists’ modus operandi involves attacking security facilities, waiting for reinforcements to arrive, and then staging secondary attacks. A number of security personnel have been martyred in these attacks. Police officials say forces lack the training to counter these attacks, while experts also question how terrorists are able to maintain their supply lines. The gaps in training need to be filled so that security forces are able to defend themselves, gain the upper hand over violent elements, and, through better intelligence, break up their networks and thwart their attacks. At present, the terrorism figures, particularly in Balochistan and KP, do not paint a reassuring picture. According to the PICSS think tank, there were over 600 fatalities in July. While the vast majority was of terrorists, over 200 security men, civilians and peace committee members were martyred last month. Balochistan saw the highest levels of violence, while KP was not far behind. Overall, in the first six months of 2026, Pakistan has witnessed over 900 fatalities involving LEAs and civilians. This is far too high a toll, and the state needs to urgently refine its CT strategy to prevent further loss of precious lives. It is a matter of great concern that despite the martyrdom of so many policemen and soldiers, as well as civilians, the state is unable to vanquish the monster of terrorism. Hostile external forces may indeed be creating problems, but as security experts point out, we have failed to secure spaces within our borders where terrorists operate from. This continuous bloodbath must end so that people can live in peace. Published in Dawn, August 4th, 2026

4 dead, 15 injured in Thailand school shooting: deputy interior minister
At least four people were killed and 15 students injured during a school shooting just north of Bangkok on Friday, the Thai deputy interior minister said. Two students and two teachers were killed in the assault at the high school in Nonthaburi province, deputy interior minister Polapee Suwunchwee told local broadcaster Thai PBS. The injured students were not hurt by gunfire but as they were trying to flee, he said. The shooter was identified as a teenage student of the school and also reported dead, according to local media reports citing authorities. Some reports said police officers had shot and killed the suspect, while others said he had died by suicide. “It’s such a terrible incident. It should never have happened. How could this happen in our country?” Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at Bangkok’s Government House. Polapee said the suspect used a handgun and the interior ministry was investigating how the student obtained it. Photos published by local media show the suspect wearing a purple school uniform and carrying a black cross-body bag, with several bullet casings visible on the ground. Traffic near the Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi was nearly at a standstill, an AFP journalist saw, with local media reporting that parents were picking up their children following the incident. Thailand has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the region, with around 10 million firearms estimated to be in circulation — one for every seven inhabitants. Past promises of tightening gun laws have not prevented repeated shootings. Thai police shot and arrested a teenage shooter who opened fire at a school in the south of the country in February, leaving the school principal dead and two students injured. The teen had used a police officer’s weapon in the shooting. A local police chief said at the time that the suspect was hospitalised for psychiatric treatment in December and had been discharged. The teen stabbed a police officer with a knife and stole his weapon — a 9mm pistol — just before the incident, and then used it to carry out the attack. In 2022, an ex-policeman armed with a gun and a knife stormed into a nursery in the country’s north and murdered 24 children and 12 adults, one of Thailand’s deadliest massacres.

Suspect among 7 dead in Thailand school shooting; 15 injured
At least seven people were killed on Friday when a student opened fire at a school in Thailand before turning the gun on himself, a national police official said. Students streamed out of the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, on the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok, as the wounded were loaded onto ambulances and teachers hugged each other and cried. In photos circulated by emergency workers, one person is seen lying down on a stretcher outside an ambulance, while another is attended to by a medic. Lt. Col. Trirong Phophan, a spokesman for the National Police, told Reuters the suspected shooter was among the seven people killed. Fifteen people were injured, he added. One 18-year-old student told Reuters he initially thought there were firecrackers going off or someone banging an object. “I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he said. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.” “It’s such a terrible incident. It should never have happened. How could this happen in our country?” Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at Bangkok’s Government House. Second school shooting Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong told Reuters that both teachers and students were among those reported dead. Police identified the perpetrator as a student. It is the second school shooting in Thailand this year after a teacher died and a student was injured in the south of the country in February. Emergency worker Kiatikhun Verapongpradith, 47, described arriving as the shooting was ongoing and his team treated students with injuries in the back, chest and arms. They found a male teacher lying dead on an upper floor of the school, and in another room they found a female teacher with wounds in her chest and arm. “We gave CPR for about 30 minutes and rushed her to the hospital as we could not get her heart rate up, but we tried our best,” he said. Traffic near the Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi was nearly at a standstill, an AFP journalist saw, with local media reporting that parents were picking up their children following the incident. In the 2025 academic year, the school had an enrollment of around 3,100 students and 147 teachers, according to district authorities. Deputy Education Minister Akkharanan Kannakittinan said in a statement he was coordinating to provide assistance. History of shootings Gun ownership and gun violence are not uncommon in Thailand, which has seen a series of deadly shootings in the past six years, with children among the victims. Thailand’s worst mass killing by a single perpetrator in its recent history took place in 2022, when a former policeman ran amok in a three-hour gun-and-knife attack in the northeast that killed 36 people, including 22 children stabbed as they slept at a daycare centre. A gunman killed five people, including security guards and a vendor, at a Bangkok market in July 2025 before turning the gun on himself, while a teacher died in the southern city of Hat Yai in February this year when a shooter opened fire at a school where she worked. In 2020, a soldier killed 29 people in a shooting rampage in Nakhon Ratchasima. And in 2023, a 14-year-old used a modified handgun to kill two people and wound five others at a luxury Bangkok shopping centre.

Thai teen kills 8 in rampage at home and school before shooting himself
A Thai teenager killed at least six people and himself at a school outside Bangkok on Friday after fatally shooting his grandparents, police said, in the Southeast Asian nation’s worst mass killing since 2022. Students streamed out of the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, on the capital’s northwestern outskirts, as the wounded were loaded on to ambulances and teachers hugged each other and cried. In photos circulated by emergency workers, one person is seen lying down on a stretcher outside an ambulance, while another is attended to by a medic. He said he was called to treat the teenage shooter after hearing a final shot. “We rushed up and found that the perpetrator had shot himself in the right side of the head and collapsed. When we got up there, we checked his pulse, he still had one, so we started CPR.” The suspect was then taken to the hospital, he said. After the 2023 shooting, Anutin, who was then serving as interior minister, ordered a raft of gun control measures, including a short-term ban on new licenses, import restrictions, and banning of people under 20 years from shooting ranges. Longer-term measures also included a medical certificate assessing the mental health and psychological condition of gun owners as well as a specified validity period for some gun licenses. Thailand had an estimated 10.3 million firearms in civilian possession, equating to around 15 guns per 100 residents, the highest rate in Southeast Asia by a wide margin, according to a 2017 estimate by the Small Arms Survey.

Thai teen kills 7 in rampage at home and school before shooting himself
A Thai teenager killed at least five people and himself at a school outside Bangkok on Friday after fatally shooting his grandparents, police said, in the Southeast Asian nation’s worst mass killing since 2022. Police said the shooter, who was 14 years old, fired at least 26 bullets, and was found with 34 additional ammunition rounds. The gun had belonged to his grandfather, police said. Police said 23 people were wounded in the incident, the latest in a succession of high-profile shootings in recent years in Thailand, which has by far the largest number of guns in civilian possession in Southeast Asia, and among the most per capita in Asia, according to a 2017 estimate by the Small Arms Survey. One 18-year-old student told Reuters he initially thought there were firecrackers going off or someone banging an object. “I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he said. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.” Second school shooting Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong told Reuters that both teachers and students were among the casualties. The motive for the shooting was being investigated, he told reporters. “This is terrible for something like this to happen,” Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters. “I’m sad for those who died and sad for something like this to happen in our country.” History of shootings Gun ownership and gun violence are not uncommon in Thailand, which has seen a series of deadly shootings in the past six years, with children among the victims. After the 2023 shooting, Anutin, who was then serving as interior minister, ordered a raft of gun control measures, including a short-term ban on new licenses, import restrictions, and banning of people under 20 years from shooting ranges. Teachers, students killed in Thai school shooting near Bangkok
A student opened fire at a high school outside Bangkok on Friday, killing at least five people and then taking his own life, according to authorities, who said he also appeared to have killed his two grandparents at the family home earlier in the morning. 11 killed in deadliest Israeli strikes on Lebanon since June
• Three children among the dead • Lebanese PM Salam says slain women, children were not ‘military infrastructure’; President Aoun calls strikes a ‘clear message’ ahead of Rome talks • Hezbollah vows ‘appropriate’ response, rejects direct negotiations BEIRUT: At least 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, including three children, Lebanon’s health ministry said, marking the deadliest raids since deals in June eased hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. Seven people were killed when Israeli warplanes struck a house in the southern village of Ansar. Four others were killed and 17 were wounded in a strike on the village of Deir Zahrani, raising an earlier toll, Lebanon’s official National News Agency said. The attacks wounded a total of 19 people. The strikes came as Israel and Lebanon were set to hold an eighth round of US-sponsored direct negotiations early next month in Rome. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Saturday’s strikes were a “clear message” aimed at the negotiations and American efforts to implement the framework agreement. Aoun condemned the “ongoing Israeli attacks” on the south and “repeated violations of the framework agreement … and international law on protecting civilians, which led to the death of an entire family in the village of Ansar,” according to a statement from his office. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam echoed the condemnation, urging Israel to halt the “extremely dangerous” escalation. “The martyrs of the Israeli raid on the village of Ansar are not ‘military infrastructure’, and the women and children killed in it are not military targets,” Salam said in a post on X. Hezbollah said the Israeli attacks on Lebanon would be met with an “appropriate” response, urging authorities to halt “humiliating” negotiations with Israel. Israel “must clearly understand that its attacks, violations and attempts to impose a fait accompli cannot continue and will be met with an appropriate response,” the group said in a statement. Hezbollah added that Lebanese authorities “must not insist on continuing along the humiliating path of direct negotiations and providing the enemy with free concessions.” The group said the escalation reflected a desire by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “to escalate the war in order to strengthen his domestic political position”. The Israeli military said the early morning strikes in the areas of Nabatieh and Ansar were in retaliation for an attack by Hezbollah on its troops inside an agreed security zone, which resulted in three injuries. The zone is a strip of territory about 10 kilometres deep inside Lebanon where Israeli forces operate. In a statement on X, Netanyahu’s office appeared to acknowledge that civilians were hit. The military said it killed Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan, a commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, and others when it struck a central headquarters in Ansar. “At the time of the strike, Hassan’s family was also present with him inside the military headquarters and, according to the claim, was harmed in the strike,” the statement added. The National News Agency reported the strike near Ansar, roughly 20 kilometres from the border, was the deepest into Lebanon in two months. The agency also reported a series of airstrikes targeting the Ali al-Taher ridge, a strategic hill overlooking the Nabatieh area. The Israel-Lebanon framework deal includes the disarmament of Hezbollah, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from south Lebanon and the deployment of the Lebanese army to the region. At least 4,300 people have been killed in Lebanon since the latest round of hostilities began in March. Published in Dawn, August 16th, 2026

US cries foul as Israel bombs Turkey-linked airbase in Syria
On Tuesday, Israel bombed a Syrian airbase that Turkish officials have been helping to renovate, marking the latest escalation in the Israeli government’s effort to beat back Turkey’s influence in Syria. The strikes, which reportedly damaged an airstrip and a storage facility at the Abu al-Duhur Airbase, did not lead to any casualties. Still, they drew a strong rebuke from U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, a long-time friend of President Donald Trump who is also serving as the president’s envoy to Syria. The attacks “constitute an unnecessary escalation that does not advance regional stability,” Barrack posted on X, adding that the government in Syria has “repeatedly indicated a preference for de-escalation with Israel.” The comments represent unusually sharp criticism of Israel from the Trump administration, which maintains a close relationship with the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Barrack’s rebuke indicates growing U.S. frustrations over Israel’s habit of attacking potential threats pre-emptively rather than seeking diplomatic solutions. Indeed, Syria has turned into a major sticking point in U.S.-Israeli relations since the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024. Trump has sought to improve relations with Syria since he began his second term last January. He has lifted most sanctions on the country and seemingly developed a positive rapport with President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a one-time al-Qaeda fighter who later rejected jihadism and led the campaign that toppled former President Bashar al-Assad. Israel has been far more circumspect about the post-Assad government. Shortly after Sharaa took power, the Israeli military occupied a swathe of land in southern Syria and launched a campaign of airstrikes aimed at destroying the former government’s military equipment, lest it fall into the new government’s hands. Turkey has played an important role in this dispute. Ankara has been a key backer of Sharaa since the late 2010s, when his militant group ruled over a small region surrounding Idlib in northwest Syria. Growing Turkish influence on the new Syrian government has infuriated Israeli leaders, who increasingly see Turkey as a “new Iran” bent on countering Israel’s interests across the Middle East. Israel has so far been careful to avoid angering Trump through its anti-Turkey campaign. Prior to Tuesday’s strikes, the Israeli military had not hit Turkish interests directly, though it came close on several occasions, including when it launched a series of strikes in April 2025 on bases that Turkey had “scoped out” for potential troop deployments, according to Reuters. As Israel-Turkey tensions have continued to rise, Netanyahu has begun pressing Trump to take a more emphatic stance, or at least to accept the necessity of an Israeli military presence in Syria. Just last month, Netanyahu took time during a meeting on Iran to show Trump a map of Syria that claimed Turkey was occupying 5% of Syrian territory, while the Israeli military was only occupying 0.1% of the country. (As the Times of Israel noted, Turkey is doing so with the permission of the Syrian government, while Israel is not.) Netanyahu’s concerns appear to have fallen on deaf ears. According to a recent report from Israel’s Channel 13, Israeli officials asked Trump several weeks ago to approve an attack on a Turkish military site in Syria, and the president refused. It is unclear whether Tuesday’s strikes were related to these discussions. Syria’s government condemned Tuesday’s attack as a “dangerous escalation that threatens security and stability in the region,” calling on the United Nations Security Council to “clearly condemn this aggression and take a firm position against Israel’s repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty.”

Son dönemde Ankara-Şam hattındaki ikili ilişkiler düşünüldüğünde İsrail’in artık bir hamle yapması gerekiyordu” denildi. İLETİŞİM BAŞKANLIĞI’NDAN İSRAİL’E TEPKİ Öte yandan Cumhurbaşkanlığı İletişim Başkanlığı, İsrail Başbakanlığı’nın Türkiye’ye yönelik gayriciddi iddialarının, İsrail’in Suriye’nin egemenliğini ve toprak bütünlüğünü hedef alan hava saldırılarını meşrulaştırmayı amaçladığını bildirdi. Başkanlığın sosyal medya hesabından yapılan açıklamada, İsrail Başbakanlığı’nın Türkiye’ye yönelik iddialarına tepki gösterildi. ‘HUKUKSUZ SALDIRILARI MEŞRULAŞTIRMAYA ÇALIŞIYORLAR’ Açıklamada, "İsrail Başbakanlığı tarafından ortaya atılan gayriciddi iddialar, İsrail’in Suriye’nin egemenliğini ve toprak bütünlüğünü hedef alan hukuksuz hava saldırılarını meşrulaştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Dile getirilen ithamlar, Netanyahu’nun İsrail’deki seçimler öncesinde bölgedeki yayılmacı ve istikrarsızlaştırıcı politikalarını sürdürme niyetinden kaynaklanmaktadır" ifadeleri kullanıldı. ‘SURİYE’NİN İSTİKRARSIZLAŞTIRILMASINA ASLA İZİN VERİLMEYECEK’ Türkiye'nin, uluslararası toplumun büyük çoğunluğu gibi bölgede barışın kalıcı hale gelmesinden yana olduğu vurgulanan açıklamada, "Bunun yegane yolu, Netanyahu’nun saldırgan ve dayatmacı politikalarını terk ederek uluslararası hukuka saygı göstermesinden geçmektedir" değerlendirmesinde bulunuldu. Pakistan condemns ‘unprovoked’ Israeli attack on Syria air base
The Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday strongly condemned the “unprovoked” attack carried out by Israel on an air base in Syria, saying such acts had the potential to “further undermine regional peace and stability”. Syria’s state-run Ekhbariya television, citing a military source, said on Tuesday that Israel carried out eight airstrikes on the runway and storage facilities at the Abu al-Duhur base near Aleppo in northwest Syria. A separate military source and a civilian who lives near the base said there were no casualties. “Such provocative actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and have the potential to further undermine regional peace and stability,” the FO said on Wednesday. “Pakistan expresses its unwavering solidarity with the brotherly people of Syria, and reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as peace and prosperity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the FO said. Pakistan also called on the international community to play its role in ending repeated violations of international law by Israeli occupation forces and to hold them accountable for their destabilising actions in the region, it added. ANKARA, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Turkey firmly rejected on Wednesday what it called "untenable allegations" by Israel regarding its military position in Syria, after Israel bombed a Syrian air base near the Turkish border and said Syria was on the verge of permitting Turkish troops to deploy there. Israel carried out airstrikes against the Abu al-Duhur base near Aleppo on Tuesday, drawing condemnation from Turkey and criticism from a U.S. envoy who called the attack an "unnecessary escalation".

Öte yandan İsrail Genelkurmay Başkanı Eyal Zamir’in, saldırıdan bir gün sonra, Suriye’nin güneyinde İsrail’in işgali altındaki bölgeye gittiği duyuruldu. Ben-Gvir’in sözlerinin insanlık dışı ifadeler olduğunu vurgulayan Schuster, bunun “Yahudi değerleriyle taban tabana zıt olduğunu ve İsrail’in itibarına zarar verdiğini” belirtti.

ABD-İran Mutabakatına Rağmen İsrail'den Lübnan'a Kanlı Saldırı: 4 Ölü

Haberler, Washington'un İsrail'in Lübnan'daki askeri operasyonlarının derinleştirilmesindeki rolüne dikkat çekiyor.

ABD-İran yakınlaşması, 2015 nükleer anlaşmasıyla kıyaslanırken, eleştirmenler İran'a daha fazla taviz verildiğini öne sürüyor. Hürmüz Boğazı'ndan petrol geçişinin normale dönmesi, anlaşmanın ilk somut etkisi olarak değerlendiriliyor.
