14 minors searched for glorifying supremacists, proposing attacks

(ANSA) - ROME, 25 SET - Italian police on Friday searched the homes of 17 people including 14 minors on suspicion of glorifying white supremacists and proposing racist attacks online. The group allegedly published manifestos regarding massacres committed by white supremacist attackers, glorifying figures such as Hitler or Brenton Tarrant, the Australian perpetrator of mosque attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand that left dozens dead in 2019. They also allegedly proposed methods for carrying out attacks or constructing explosive devices. Carabinieri from the ROS (Special Operations Group) and DIGOS officers conducted searches in various cities targeting the 17 individuals—including 14 minors—accused of propaganda and incitement to commit crimes based on racial and religious discrimination, with terrorism-related aggravating circumstances. Some participated in the "New European Order Chat" social media group, while others were part of the "Italian Fascist Front" group, sharing posts targeting Jews, homosexuals, and people of colour. During the searches authorities seized edged weapons (such as knives), banners, and items bearing Nazi symbolism. The suspects promoted the white supremacist group "The Base" and distributed self-training manuals and instructions on carrying out direct actions. Furthermore, they engaged in online gaming that simulated the murder of individuals belonging to ethnic minorities. The searches were conducted by ROS Carabinieri—supported by Provincial Commands in Rome, Como, Catanzaro, Bologna, Milan, Reggio Emilia, Benevento, Genoa, Udine, Palermo, and Trento—and by DIGOS officers from the Verona Police Headquarters.
