The Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva Welcomes the Italian Association of International Civil Servants

(ANSA) - GINEVRA, 23 SET - The challenges of multilateralism were the focus of an evening event at the Italian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva with members of the Italian Association of International Civil Servants (AIFI), attended by numerous officials from various agencies based in Geneva. The current phase—as emphasized in a press release from the Mission—is undoubtedly complex, with heavy pressure on the budgets of United Nations organizations and increasingly intense competition with emerging countries determined to gain decision-making influence and greater representation. In this context, Ambassador Luigi Vignali stressed the importance of safeguarding the human capital and cultural identity of the many Italian professionals who contribute daily to the improvement of multilateral institutions, noting that the Mission intends to stand by them by working in partnership with the Association, according to the press release. Significant synergies can indeed be created among officials, AIFI, and the Mission to more effectively advance Italy’s positions within these organizations while simultaneously promoting career development. In this regard, AIFI’s ability to serve as a liaison is a significant asset, connecting its network with Italian institutions in Geneva and Rome and fostering the exchange of ideas among officials working in various international organizations. As reiterated by President Luigi Scibile, recently elected to lead the Association, this bridging role also extends across generations, with senior officials interacting with young talents to support one another. The underlying strategic goal, on which AIFI and the Representation will increasingly focus, is the promotion of a network of international officials capable of dynamically looking toward a future shaped by the transformation brought about by artificial intelligence.
