Italy will be the guest of honor at the Mexican Foreign Trade Congress

(ANSA) - CITTÀ DEL MESSICO, 22 SET - Italy will be the guest of honor at the 32nd Mexican Foreign Trade Congress, scheduled to take place in Monterrey from October 27 to 29, 2026. The announcement was made by Juan Pablo Castañón, vice president of the National Business Council for the Sector (Comce), during a press conference attended by Valentina Valente, head of the economic and commercial office at the Italian Embassy, and Lorenzo Vianello, president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico and of the bilateral business committee of the same name. The summit’s goal is to diversify the Latin American nation’s target markets. During a meeting held a few days ago, Comce Director Lourdes Arana Flores confirmed the presence of Ambassador Alessandro Modiano and the participation of various Italian companies operating in the country. “We want them to seek out Mexican suppliers, and we want to strengthen our trade relationship—it’s time to look elsewhere,” said the executive. Italy’s share of the export market ranks second among European economies, surpassed only by Germany’s, and Rome directs one-third of its sales in Latin America to Mexico. In this regard, Valente emphasized: “With the signing of the modernized comprehensive agreement between the European Union and Mexico, opportunities will grow even further because 99% of products will be traded duty-free.” Although Mexico’s bilateral trade deficit rose to approximately 7,450 million euros in 2025, Vianello clarified that the trade balance is extremely positive, as a large portion of imports from Italy consists of machinery that is strategic for local industrial development. “In the first six months of 2026, Mexican exports grew by just over 30%, and Italian exports by just over 9%,” he concluded.
