Italian Aid for the Chókwè Agricultural Institute Affected by Floods in Mozambique

(ANSA) - MAPUTO, 06 AGO - The Mozambican government, through the Ministry of Education and Culture, in partnership with Italian cooperation, delivered supplies and equipment to students at the Chókwè Agricultural Institute in the southern province of Gaza, which was hit by floods last January. The floods had severely damaged the institute’s dormitories, classrooms, agricultural equipment, and production areas. The institute, which enrolls 466 students from various districts within the province and neighboring regions, is a strategic facility for training the country’s agricultural technicians. In response to the emergency, the school had launched a solidarity campaign to ensure the continuity of the students’ education. The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) provided approximately 2.5 million meticais (about 33,000 euros) to fund the purchase of goods and materials, in addition to 500,000 meticais made available by Italian vocational schools in the ENAIP network for scholarships and kits for practical lessons. “Today’s ceremony represents not only an emergency response to a humanitarian and climate crisis, but also a strategic investment in protecting young people’s human capital and strengthening technical and vocational agricultural training in Mozambique,” stated Eugeniu Rotaru, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Italian Embassy.
