Israeli strikes claim six more lives in Gaza
GAZA STRIP: Israeli strikes killed at least six more Palestinians in Gaza on Tuesday despite the Hamas move to dissolve the administration body, saying it “wants to remove any pretexts for Israel to continue its aggression and war of extermination”. On Monday, Hamas announced the dissolution of the committee that has governed the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades in an attempt to clear the way for a technocratic committee to administer the territory. However, Israeli forces continued the strikes on Tuesday, claiming to have targeted Hamas. An air strike killed a man and wounded two children in the Mawasi area of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. Another Israeli air strike targeted a tent encampment housing displaced families in western Gaza City, killing one person and wounding five others, medics said. A third air strike in Khan Yunis killed one person and wounded three others. Strikes continue despite Hamas bid to remove pretexts for Israeli aggression Later on Tuesday, one Palestinian was killed and nine others were wounded by Israeli gunfire in an area of Rafah in the south of Gaza, medics and witnesses said. Meanwhile, in Gaza City’s Tel Al-Hawa neighbourhood, an Israeli air strike hit a vehicle, killing two people, medics said, taking the Tuesday’s death toll to six. Israel has repeatedly carried out air and ground assault in Gaza, as the health ministry said more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed in the area since October 2023. While a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect in Gaza last October, more than 1,070 Palestinians, most of them civilians, and four Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza, according to figures released by the two sides. Nikolay Mladenov, US President Donald Trump’s appointed Board of Peace envoy to Gaza, has said both sides have violated the ceasefire agreement. However, Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire repeatedly. The Palestinian group, which has run Gaza since it seized control from the rival Palestinian movement Fatah in 2007 after winning legislative elections the previous year, in a major political shift announced on Monday that it was prepared to step aside from day-to-day governance. Ismail al-Thawabta, head of Hamas’ media office in Gaza, said the head of the government’s emergency committee had “decided to dissolve the committee to facilitate the administrative and governmental transition to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG)”. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said the group has taken a new step in that it would no longer be in charge of the Gaza Strip, in order to remove any pretexts for the Israeli occupation, which continues its aggression and war of extermination. However, the move by Hamas failed to deter the aggression as Israeli forces continued to carry out strikes in different parts of Gaza, claiming to have targeted Hamas. Young girl among six dead in Israeli strike in Gaza
CAIRO: Israeli attacks killed at least six people in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, including a nine-year-old girl, Palestinian health officials said, as mediators held more talks to safeguard the US-brokered ceasefire. Medics said Israeli gunfire directed at a tent encampment on the eastern side of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza killed nine-year-old Tala Abu Matar. The Israeli military said it was not aware of the incident. An air strike at a metal foundry in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood killed four people. Witnesses said the site was hit with three Israeli missiles. Israel’s military said they targeted “terrorist” sites but gave no evidence or details to support their claim. Separately, the military said that since on Thursday its forces had killed at least two Hamas fighters in northern Gaza who were planning attacks on its troops. Later on Sunday, an Israeli strike at a tent encampment in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis, in the south, killed at least one person and wounded several others, including children, medics said. Israel’s military did not immediately comment. Talks deadlocked The ceasefire agreed in October 2025 between Israel and Hamas halted major fighting in the enclave, but it has failed to stop Israeli attacks that have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians since it took effect. Four Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza over the same period. The latest violence comes as Hamas leaders visited Cairo for further talks over implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. The discussions include Hamas disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals, according to sources close to the talks, adding that there had not yet been a breakthrough. Published in Dawn, July 13th, 2026

Children among 10 killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza
GAZA CITY: Gaza’s civil defence and hospitals said Israeli attacks on Saturday killed 10 people across the territory, among them three children and their parents. A ceasefire remains in place between Israel and Hamas, but it has not halted the violence in Gaza, and efforts to secure a lasting agreement to end the war have stalled. A family of five — three children and their parents — were killed when an Israeli strike hit a residential apartment in northwest Gaza City, according to the territory’s civil defence agency, which operates as a rescue service under Hamas. “The family’s only surviving member is one child, who was not inside the house at the time of the strike,” Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for the agency, said. Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital confirmed it had received the five bodies. An Israeli military spokeswoman said a strike had been carried out in Gaza City on Saturday “targeting a Hamas terrorist”. She said the military was still assessing the results. Gaza resident Mousa Al-Aimawi said the strike came without warning. “Suddenly there was a missile hitting the building. No one knew, no one, no warning, nothing,” he said. “They hit it without caring that there are civilians, children, women, girls.” Mohammed Kali, who lives in the same building, said he saw several people lying on the ground. “There were bodies scattered on the ground — women and children dead, and elderly people too,” he said. Footage from the scene showed large sections of the building’s facade torn away, as rescue teams helped the wounded. Onlookers picked through shattered concrete blocks and twisted metal, searching for any belongings that could be salvaged. Three more people were killed when an Israeli air strike hit a group of civilians in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, the agency reported. Al-Shifa hospital confirmed it had received the three bodies. Health officials said two other people were killed elsewhere in Israeli attacks in Gaza. The military did not offer an immediate comment on those attacks. Violence has persisted despite the ceasefire. Before Friday’s casualties, at least 1,144 Palestinians had been killed since the truce took effect last October, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations. The Israeli military says it has lost five soldiers in Gaza over the same period, as well as one civilian contractor. Restrictions imposed on media outlets and limited access in Gaza prevent from independently verifying tolls or freely covering the violence there. Published in Dawn, July 19th, 2026

Four of family die as car plunges into Kaghan gorge
MANSEHRA: Four members of a family, including two women, were killed and another was injured when the car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine in the Paras area of Kaghan Valley on Sunday. Paras police station SHO Abbas Shah told reporters that five members of a family from Punjab were travelling to Naran, the commercial hub of Kaghan Valley, when the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn near Paras. The car skidded off the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road and plunged into a deep ravine. The police and Rescue 1122 personnel rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies and the injured after hectic efforts. The injured, identified as Tanveer Khurram was taken to the Rural Health Centre in Kawai, where doctors referred him to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital in Mansehra due to his critical condition. According to a list issued by the police, the deceased were identified as Shamroz Sajid, Saman Shehbaz, Shanza Ashfaq and the driver, Judain Sohail, hailing from Lahore. SHO Shah said the vehicle came to rest just a few inches short of falling into the Kunhar River. “We have repeatedly issued advisories asking tourists to exercise extreme caution while driving on the roads in hilly areas such as Kaghan Valley,” he said. Meanwhile, a young man, identified as Muzzammil, was injured when a black bear attacked him in the Hangrai Narian area of Balakot. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Balakot, where doctors admitted him after providing emergency treatment. Speaking to reporters, Muzzammil said he had taken his herd to graze in a nearby forest when the bear attacked him. Published in Dawn, July 20th, 2026

Israeli air strikes kill 18 more Palestinians in Gaza City
CAIRO: Israeli air strikes hit Gaza for a second straight day on Sunday, killing at least 18 Palestinians, medics said, despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a breakthrough in efforts to implement last year’s Gaza ceasefire agreement. From dawn, Israeli warplanes hit Gaza City in the north, the central city of Deir al-Balah and the southern area of Khan Yunis, causing the biggest daily death toll in weeks, according to Palestinian health officials. Trump’s assertion on Thursday that Palestinian Hamas and other groups had agreed to disarm had raised hopes of a turning point in the conflict. On Sunday, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen, a member of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s security cabinet, told Israel’s Army Radio the government would give Hamas the opportunity to disarm but said he was “very sceptical” that would happen. Minister Eli Cohen denies any deal to halt attacks Cohen added that there had been no deal to halt attacks on Gaza and that he saw a need for Israel which already controls 70 per cent of the enclave to take full control of it if Hamas did not disarm. “In the deal we signed with the United States, our stance is that Hamas must be dismantled. This is the first thing that must happen,” he added. Attacks hit tents Israeli strikes on Deir al-Balah killed at least four people, Palestinian health officials said, and a separate attack wounded five people and set some tents ablaze in Mawasi near Khan Yunis, according to the civil emergency service. A couple and their 9-year-old son were also killed in a strike on a house in Mawasi, Palestinian officials said. Another couple was killed with their child in a strike on an apartment in Gaza City, where two more people died in a strike on a tent near the office of the Egyptian representative mission, medics said. Another person was killed near Jabalia in northern Gaza, they added. At least 1,230 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since a ceasefire was reached in October, according to Gaza health authorities. They do not say how many combatants may be among the dead. Hamas does not disclose figures on its war dead. Trump’s Board of Peace, the US-led body overseeing the ceasefire, published on Friday a 15-point roadmap setting out the final steps for implementing the agreement. Hamas has said Israel must stop its attacks in Gaza and pull its troops back, in accordance with other key terms of the ceasefire deal, before it will agree to hand over weapons to a new Palestinian body named to run Gaza. After deadly day, Gazans say Trump's touting of plan jars with grim reality
CAIRO/GAZA, Aug 3 - Palestinians in Gaza said on Monday Donald Trump's touting of a deal aimed at disarming Hamas and ending the war was out of touch with their worsening reality, after Israel killed 18 people in one of the deadliest days since a ceasefire last year.

Bored of Peace: Why is Trump undermining his own Gaza plan?
A lot can change in a week. Barely five days after President Donald Trump hailed the “historic agreement” on Hamas’s disarmament by the Board of Peace (BOP) — the body Trump created to oversee his Gaza Peace Plan — the very same Board of Peace has now effectively reneged on its own agreement. The deal emerged from eight months of intensive negotiations between BOP High Representative Nicolay Mladenov and Hamas, along with various regional stakeholders, and was expected to pave the way for implementing the long-delayed second phase of Trump’s 20 Point Plan. This would have included desperately needed reconstruction and the establishment of a Palestinian governing body and police force, alongside the disarmament of Hamas and withdrawal of Israeli forces from the devastated enclave. Trump and his BOP had already given Israel an effective pass on most of its Phase 1 obligations, refusing to call out Israel’s daily violations of the ceasefire. Israel has persisted in carrying out near daily airstrikes across Gaza, killing at least 1,250 Palestinians since the ceasefire was signed last October, even as it continues to severely restrict aid, seize more territory, and block the return of Palestinian governing and policing bodies. Last week’s agreement would’ve required each side, notably Israel, to meet all of its outstanding obligations. The two most contentious points — distinguishing between heavy weaponry and small (private) arms, and the sequencing of weapons decommissioning and Israeli withdrawal — were finally agreed after intense pressure on Hamas by the Egyptians and other interlocutors. Most crucially, the deal called for a parallel, phased process in which Israeli military withdrawal and the decommissioning of Hamas weapons occurred concurrently — a pragmatic provision that would ensure progress and prevent either side from exercising a “veto” over the process. Keen to make the deal work, Trump administration officials even lodged an implicit threat, warning that if Israel rejected the plan, “obviously President Trump would be very, very disappointed.” But Israel rejected the terms of the deal, insisting there would be no Israeli withdrawal unless Hamas was fully disarmed and Israel maintained the freedom to continue conducting military operations in Gaza. Instead of calling Israel out, the Trump-aligned BOP did a complete about-face, adopting the Israeli position wholesale. “Contrary to inaccurate reports,” read Monday’s BOP statement, “we note that the withdrawal of the IDF beyond the Yellow Line will take place only once decommissioning is complete, as Hamas committed to the mediators [emphasis added].” Of course, the agreement said no such thing. Article 8 of the BOP’s Road Map expressly states that the decommissioning “process is linked to a phased Israeli withdrawal from the areas it controls in Gaza and the inventorying of weapons held by armed militias.” Indeed, Mladenov himself had said “Withdrawal must move in lockstep with decommissioning.” As such, Trump’s Board of Peace has essentially rewritten its own peace plan, requiring Hamas to meet all of its Phase 2 obligations even before Israel has met any of its Phase 1 obligations. The implications of the Trump administration’s whiplash-inducing turn will be serious and far-reaching. First and foremost, it badly undermines Mladenov’s credibility as a broker. If anything he negotiates can be so quickly and easily negated by the White House, why should Hamas — or for that matter other regional actors like Egypt and Qatar — talk to him? Trump is also undercutting his own peace plan more broadly, jeopardizing one of his few concrete foreign policy achievements. Hamas is unlikely to go along with this latest shifting of the goalposts; after all, the demand that the group unilaterally disarm even as Israel entrenches and expands its control over Gaza while carrying out deadly attacks on a daily basis would be widely (and accurately) viewed as surrender. Most devastatingly, for Gaza’s 2.2 million inhabitants, who have already withstood unspeakable horrors and are now living in the most horrid of conditions, Trump’s U-turn will indefinitely delay desperately needed relief, recovery and reconstruction.

Gazze'de Ateşkes İhlalleri Gölgesinde Bayram: Ölü Sayısı 72,797'ye Yükseldi
İsrail'in Gazze'ye yönelik saldırıları, Ekim 2023'ten bu yana devam ederken Filistin Sağlık Bakanlığı toplam can kaybının 72,797'ye, yaralı sayısının ise 172,821'e ulaştığını açıkladı.

ABD-İran Mutabakatına Rağmen İsrail'den Lübnan'a Kanlı Saldırı: 4 Ölü
