The 80th anniversary of the Republic was celebrated at the embassy in Paris

(ANSA) - PARIGI, 05 GIU - The Italian Embassy in France hosted a reception yesterday evening to mark the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic. This year, approximately 1,500 guests attended the traditional event at the historic Hôtel de la Rochefoucauld-Doudeauville, including representatives from institutions, the diplomatic corps, the business community, the press, and Italian and French civil society. Along with many high-ranking civil, religious, and military officials and numerous former ministers, the reception was particularly honored by the presence of the Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard, the Minister for Urban Policy and Housing, Vincent Jeanbrun, the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in charge of the Francophonie, International Partnerships, and French Citizens Abroad, Eléonore Caroit, the Vice President of the Senate, Xavier Jacovelli, the President of the France-Italy Friendship Group in the Senate, Hervé Marseille, and numerous deputies, senators, and MEPs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Worship of the Argentine Republic, Pablo Quirno, who is currently on a mission in Paris, also attended the celebration. Following the national anthems performed by the String Quartet of the Orchestra of the Republican Guard of the French National Gendarmerie, speeches were delivered by the Italian Ambassador to France, Emanuela D’Alessandro, and the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Eléonore Caroit. In her speech, Ambassador D’Alessandro first emphasized the profound significance of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic: “Eighty years ago, in what was a collective and sincere exercise in democracy, millions of Italians—and, for the first time in a nationwide vote, Italian women—chose, through the institutional referendum, the Republic and elected the members of the Constituent Assembly, including women for the first time.” “Today,” the Ambassador continued, “we therefore pay tribute to that founding legacy and to those profound values that remain vividly enshrined in our Constitution.” Turning to relations between Italy and France, the Ambassador, recalling that just yesterday the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, had presided over the third meeting of the Border Cooperation Committee in Aosta alongside his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot, she noted that “this year is also a special year for Italy and France: the year in which the 36th Intergovernmental Summit will be held, taking place in France following the G7 Summit in Evian under the French presidency,” to which the Ambassador extended her best wishes for every success. In the face of numerous international crises, Ambassador D’Alessandro emphasized “Italy’s firm commitment to peace, dialogue, and growth, especially through the promotion of multilateralism.” In concluding by announcing the imminent end of her term, the Ambassador wished to extend her greetings and heartfelt thanks to the French authorities and institutions, to the entire Italian System, and of course to the “wonderful community of compatriots in France, who every day best represent the excellence, talent, and beauty of our country.” In her remarks, Minister Delegate Caroit stated: “We are living in uncertain times and, consequently, difficult times, in which the world—having become more unpredictable, unstable, and less bright—poses urgent questions to us and compels us to make choices: Italy, France, Europe”. Minister Delegate Caroit then added: “What I mean is that our two republics, Italy and France, have demonstrated countless times, since 1946, that they know how to take the initiative, that they are not afraid to set an example of unity—of that unity which constitutes a collective strength—and that this was beautiful and significant enough to serve, if necessary, as a model for all of Europe." Caroit concluded her remarks by noting that "in a few months we will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Quirinale Treaty, and this symbolically marks the anniversary of a decisive choice: that of renewing our commitment to a Franco-Italian partnership that fully embraces its role in Europe and even in the Mediterranean".
