In Vienna, Italian contemporary art takes center stage at the Metternich Palace
(ANSA) - VIENNA, 12 GIU - On the evening of June 11, the Embassy hosted the third installment of the series of contemporary art installations curated by Marcello Farabegoli, Contaminazione #3. The works of the two artists, Flavia Bigi and Maria Cristina Finucci, were thus displayed alongside those of Cristina Fiorenza and Esther Stocker, the protagonists of the previous “Contaminazioni” art events. The event began with a welcome address by Ambassador Giovanni Pugliese, who thanked curator Marcello Farabegoli and artists Flavia Bigi and Maria Cristina Finucci for their valuable work. Recalling past editions, the Ambassador highlighted the strong cultural ties between Italy and Austria: “With this event, the Italian Embassy renews its commitment to promoting Italian contemporary art and design. In fact, through these installations, the historical heritage of Palazzo Metternich is brought into dialogue with the most current expressions of national artistic exploration.” At the end of his remarks, the Ambassador also emphasized the Embassy’s mission: “to continue believing in and investing in this dialogue, reaffirming itself as a meeting place for different cultures, ideas, and artistic languages.” Next, the curator took the floor to introduce the artists, describing their works and artistic styles. Flavia Bigi draws inspiration from the interactions between essential forms—the square and the circle, the arc and the line—developing a dialogue of proportions and metaphors that symbolize the coexistence of individuals from different nationalities and cultures. Maria Cristina Finucci explores the “fate” of plastic in the sea through a process that simulates its fragmentation and transformation with the aid of artificial intelligence. Subsequently, the artists took the floor to present their works and their artistic vision. On the one hand, Maria Cristina Finucci traced the international resonance of her work, which operates at the crossroads between environmental commitment and artistic research, reaching audiences and institutions worldwide. On the other hand, Flavia Bigi illustrated a poetics grounded in the tension between two axes: the horizontal axis of verbal language and the vertical axis of abstract inspiration. At the heart of her research lies the connection between individuals and the way they relate to the earth and the cosmic realms of thought. In conclusion, guests were able to admire the works from the three editions in the Embassy’s halls and engage in conversation with the artists. Read article...
