They discussed the urgent need for wheat storage and support for small farmers facing economic hardship due to the export crisis, jointly evaluating possible new Italian measures to counter its most severe effects. Particular attention was then given to the Odessa region, where Italy has mobilized nearly 25 million euros for agricultural initiatives, including the Pro.UKR programs, support for wine producers through the FAO, and the 6-million-euro project for irrigation systems in Tatarbunary and Kiliia, which is now nearing operational launch. “Agriculture is one of the main pillars of Italy’s presence in the Odessa region and an important component of our support for its reconstruction. We want to continue working alongside the Ukrainian government both to address immediate emergencies—starting with the challenges in wheat exports and storage caused by the barbaric Russian attacks—and to strengthen the agricultural sector’s competitiveness and resilience in the long term,” stated Ambassador Formosa.
