İran, ABD ve İsrail'in Denetim Anlaşması Kapsamındaki Nükleer Tesislere Saldırılarını Kınadı
İran'ın Uluslararası Atom Enerjisi Kurumu (IAEA) Guvernörler Kurulu toplantısındaki delegasyonu, ABD ve İsrail'in Denetim Anlaşması kapsamındaki nükleer tesislere yönelik saldırılarını kınadı.

Iran halts military operations against Israel, warns of harsher attacks if strikes on Lebanon persist
Iran on Monday said it was ending its latest military operation against Israel after the first exchanges of fire between the foes since a shaky ceasefire began, but warned it could inflict a more “crushing” response. United States President Donald Trump earlier on Monday told both Iran and key ally Israel to stop fighting, against the background of reports of an increasingly testy relationship between the US leader and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Iran fired dozens of missiles at Israel overnight and Israel responded by targeting military sites in the Islamic republic, sparking fears the escalation could usher in a new full-scale conflict after the April 8 truce. “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting.’ President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the US leader wrote on his Truth Social network. Minutes later, he added in a new post that “final negotiations” towards peace were proceeding “subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way.” Iran’s military command then said it was halting the operation against Israel after delivering a “painful response”. But it warned “that should acts of aggression and hostility continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow”. Shortly after, Israel’s army intercepted three projectiles fired from Lebanon, according to an AFP journalist near their shared border, with the military confirming the munitions had targeted its forces operating in Lebanon’s south. “Some of the projectiles were intercepted prior to crossing into Israeli territory, and an additional projectile fell near IDF soldiers. No injuries were reported,” the military said. Tehran’s earlier strikes followed attacks by Israel against targets of the Lebanese group Hezbollah in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Iran had repeatedly warned it would strike Israel if the Lebanese capital was targeted. ‘People frustrated’ On Monday in Tehran, there was little sign of any return to war, with cafe terraces packed. Traffic seemed lighter than usual for a weekday, suggesting that some people had stayed home and there were also many more people queuing at gas stations. Maryam, 41, an accountant in Tehran, described “a sense of uncertainty and confusion”. “You don’t know if there’s going to be a war, nor do you know if the peace agreement will last. Nothing is clear. People are frustrated,” she said. Residents of Tel Aviv meanwhile went to shelters as sirens went off. “I hope it will be short, but you can never know. Last time we thought it will be short and then it was a month, so I don’t know,” said Jonathan Ariel, 30. Oil prices surged more than five per cent on worries that war could break out again, with hopes now punctured of a rapid end to the standoff that has seen shipping limited through the key Strait of Hormuz trade bottleneck. The strikes also came at a critical moment with diplomatic efforts to end the conflict involving mediator Pakistan on a knife-edge. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei warned at a press conference in Tehran attended by AFP that diplomacy was continuing but risked being “affected” by the escalation. As he was speaking at the foreign ministry, a huge explosion shook the building, followed by repeated explosions believed to be from air defence systems, the AFP reporter said. Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Tehran to deliver what he said was a “special letter” to Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, according to Iranian state television. He has since travelled back to Pakistan, an official Pakistani source said on Monday. Iranian President Masoud Pezehskian wrote on X that Tehran was still “at the negotiating table”. ‘Prepared for long-term war’ No casualties have been reported in either Israel or Iran after the exchange of fire. The Israeli military said it struck and dismantled Iranian defence systems deployed across several areas in the country. Iran fired nearly 30 missiles towards Israel since Sunday night, an Israeli military official said. An AFP correspondent also saw a missile fall in agricultural land in the area of Najha, in the countryside of the Syrian capital Damascus, causing a fire around the impact site but no reported human casualties. “Material damage is minor, but the psychological impact is significant. The area is home to children, farm caretakers, livestock and solar power installations,” said Fadil Ataya, a local farmer. A military source told the Tasnim news agency that “Iran is prepared for a long-term war with the Zionist regime and for strikes against US interests” in the region. It also remains unclear who is leading decision-making in Tehran with Mojtaba Khamenei, said to have been wounded in a US-Israeli strike, yet to appear in public after taking over from his father Ali Khamenei who was assassinated on the first day of the war on February 28. The European Union’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas called on both sides to “sit down to a negotiation table and agree”, adding that “the region does not need an escalation.” Israeli strikes on Iran ‘fully coordinated’ with US, says Tehran Iran said on Monday that the recent wave of Israeli strikes against the country was “fully coordinated” with US forces. Tehran’s statement comes after Israel and Iran exchanged attacks for the first time since the shaky ceasefire in the Middle East war took effect on April 8, despite Trump calling for restraint. The flare-up, which also drew in other countries in the region, saw Israel striking Iran after the latter targeted it in vengeance for an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. No casualties have been reported so far in either Israel or Iran. “The direct responsibility of the United States for the actions of the Zionist regime is clear, and the consequences of escalating tensions will also fall on the United States,” Baqaei told a new briefing, according to state news agency IRNA. “No one believes that the Zionist regime would carry out any action without prior coordination and cooperation with the United States,” Baqaei said. “It is perfectly natural that the diplomatic process initiated to put an end to this imposed war would be affected,” the official observed. Nonetheless, Baqaei said that Pakistan’s mediation efforts to end the war with the US were continuing even after fighting resumed with Israel. “Diplomatic consultations are naturally continuing in all circumstances,” the spokesman said. Baqaei further stressed that it had “been frequently repeated by us together with the Pakistani mediator that Lebanon is part and parcel of the [ceasefire] agreement”, according to Al Jazeera. “We cannot allow the Zionist entity or the United States to undermine this part of the part of the deal,” he was quoted as saying. “These events [of the past day] will definitely intensify suspicions. We were already exchanging messages with the American side in an atmosphere of extreme suspicion,” the Iranian official noted. “The US’s contradictions to date — whether intentional or unintentional — have caused enough chaos in the diplomatic process. The incidents that have occurred in the past 24 hours will only fuel this chaotic situation in the diplomatic process,” he added. Baqaei also reiterated Tehran’s stance that the head of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog was disregarding the realities of the conflict and held biased views. He contended that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi was “acting with deliberate bias against Iran and the Iranian nuclear issue”, according to Al Jazeera. Tit-for-tat strikes after Iran’s warning Earlier on Monday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a petrochemical firm in southwestern Iran, causing partial damage to the industrial complex, Iranian officials said. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Tehran had retaliated against the attack by striking similar industrial targets in Israel’s Haifa. Israel’s attacks had followed missile launches by Iran, whose military said it targeted Israel’s Ramat David Airbase with ballistic missiles in response to Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon and Beirut. The statement warned that any further attacks would be met with “a broader and more severe” Iranian response. Last night, the IRGC demanded that the Israeli army stop its attacks on Lebanon. “We had previously warned that if the crimes in the Dahieh area of Beirut expand, we will attack targets in the occupied territories,” the IRGC’s top joint military command said. On late Saturday night, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also shared an image on X depicting Iran and Lebanon’s national flags. Earlier on Saturday, Israel launched strikes in the Beirut area for the first time since the US announced a truce plan for Lebanon last week. The region has been on edge since the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28, triggering Iranian retaliation on Israel and other regional countries hosting US military sites. A temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8, but negotiations later stalled amid disputes over its implementation and subsequent regional developments.

Lebanon says Israeli strikes on south kill 14 as attacks persist despite Iranian threat
Israeli strikes on south Lebanon killed at least 14 people on Monday, the Lebanese health ministry said, including seven after Iran threatened to attack Israel again if it continued bombing the country. Iran-backed Hezbollah meanwhile said it had targeted Israeli troops inside Lebanon, but did not claim any attacks on Israeli territory. "An Israeli enemy raid on the city of Tyre, near the Red Cross centre, resulted in 5 martyrs and 8 wounded, four of whom were Red Cross paramedics," the Lebanese health ministry said in a statement.

Israel and Iran hold fire after exchange, but warn of escalation if provoked
Israel and Iran warned that they each stood ready to launch retaliatory attacks if provoked, even as both nations appeared to back away from further strikes on Monday, hours after trading fire for the first time since their two-month-old, US-brokered ceasefire. Iran, Israel pause attacks ‘on Trump’s urging’
• US president tells Netanyahu to be careful or ‘you will be on your own’ • Israel hits petrochemical complex following Iranian missile barrages to avenge Beirut strikes • Tehran warns of stronger response if Lebanon attacks continue • Pezeshkian insists his country is still at negotiating table • Houthis announce ‘total ban’ on Israeli shipping in Red Sea TEHRAN: Iran and Israel said on Monday that hostilities between them had halted, after the two countries exchanged strikes that threatened to reignite the Middle East war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the “fire on that front is contained” hours after Tehran said it had stopped its military action against Israel. Tehran fired missiles towards Israeli territory late on Sunday, calling them retaliation for Israeli attacks on strongholds of Hezbollah on the outskirts of Beirut. Israel then said it had struck targets at the Mahshahr petrochemical complex in southwest Iran that were allegedly used to produce and export raw materials for Iran’s missile programme. A provincial official told Iranian media that parts of the plant were damaged. Of 15 people injured across Iran in the latest Israeli attacks, 14 were in Mahshahr County, but no deaths were reported, Iran’s National Emergency Organisation said. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had retaliated with a strike aimed at a similar Israeli plant in the city of Haifa. Iran has sought for weeks to link the wider Middle East truce, in place since April 8, to Israel’s war against Hezbollah, warning that attacks on Lebanon would force it to act. It said on Monday it would attack again if Israel persisted with its strikes in Lebanon. Netanyahu warned in turn that should Iran “make the mistake of resuming attacks against us, we will respond with full force”. Earlier, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz insisted that the campaign in Lebanon would carry on regardless and said Israel would strike the Hezbollah-dominated southern suburbs of Beirut in retaliation for each attack on northern Israel by the militant group. Trump, who has reportedly grown increasingly exasperated with Netanyahu, had earlier urged both sides to stop “shooting” and said that “final negotiations” towards peace would proceed “subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way”. Trump told Axios in an interview that he warned the Israeli prime minister that he might find himself fighting alone if he went back to war with Iran. “I said, ‘Bibi, you better be careful, or you will be on your own very soon,’” Axios quoted Trump as telling Netanyahu. The Israeli premier, though, said in a televised statement he had told Trump that “Israel has a full right to self-defence, and we are exercising it as required”. In a sign that both sides expected the ceasefire to hold, Israel’s education ministry announced that schools would reopen on Tuesday, having closed because of the missile threat, while Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation said it was reopening the country’s airspace. Oil prices surged more than five per cent on worries that the war would resume, with hopes now punctured of a rapid end to the standoff that has seen shipments of the Gulf’s oil and gas all but halted through the Strait of Hormuz. ‘Much more severe’ Iran fired nearly 30 missiles at Israel overnight, according to the Israeli military, and Israel responded by targeting military sites in Iran. No casualties were immediately reported in either Israel or Iran after the exchange of fire. Announcing the end of its attacks, Iran’s military command said, “should acts of hostility continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow”. But Katz said Israel’s armed forces “will continue to operate in Lebanon” against Hezbollah. “We categorically reject Iran’s threats. Any Iranian attempt to link Lebanon and Iran and attack Israel will be met with great force, as happened yesterday,” Katz said. ‘Still at negotiating table’ The strikes also came at a critical moment for diplomatic efforts to end the conflict involving mediator Pakistan. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei warned at a press conference in Tehran on Monday morning that diplomacy was continuing but could be affected by the fighting. As he was speaking at the foreign ministry, a huge explosion shook the building, followed by repeated explosions believed to be from air defence systems. Iranian President Masoud Pezehskian posted on X that Tehran was still “at the negotiating table”. “Diplomacy and defence are the two wings of national power; we have neither left the battlefield nor the negotiating table,” Pezeshkian said, adding that Tehran “will not retreat in the face of any threat”. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, said the US is “neither seeking a ceasefire nor seeking dialogue”. On a message posted on his Telegram channel, he said: “Tehran should respond “decisively to defend the rights of the Iranian people.” Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi rebels also announced a missile attack on Israel on Monday and declared a ban on Israeli shipping in the Red Sea, raising the spectre of a return to major disruption on the key route. The Houthis harassed cargo ships in the vital seaway during the Israel-Hamas war, forcing many companies into a lengthy detour around the tip of southern Africa. “We declare a complete and total ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea,” said a statement from the Houthis’ armed forces. “We consider all enemy movements to be legitimate military targets for our armed forces from the moment this statement is issued.” The Houthis, who joined the Middle East war in support of Iran in March, had not announced a missile attack on Israel since the ceasefire began on April 8. They said they “launched a missile barrage targeting sensitive Israeli enemy targets”. Published in Dawn, June 9th, 2026

Asian stocks fall as US and Iran exchange fire – business live
Rolling coverage of the latest economic and financial news Elsewhere this morning, WH Smith has said it wants to raise about £100m as the conflict in the Middle East starts to affect its profit. The high street retailer says it will place up to 26 million shares, or about 20% of its existing share capital, alongside a separate offer for retail investors in the UK. The business has a strong core and operates in attractive markets with ample scope for profit expansion, particularly in North America. However, we need much greater capital discipline and a laser focus on returns. In recent years, the outcomes from certain acquired businesses and contract obligations have been very disappointing. Our priorities are to build an efficient and effective foundation for WHSmith and use this to drive a growth strategy managed for profitability. …There is no doubt that current economic uncertainty and its effect on consumer appetite for spending has created headwinds. In this environment, sorting legacy issues while investing in the core model requires the financial flexibility of a stronger balance sheet in lock-step with self-help. This placing is a prudent and proactive step to accelerate our transformation of what is, at heart, a good business with some great people and clear opportunity for profitable growth. The CPI numbers are set to show another painful rise in costs for consumers, who are already grappling with sharp increases in the costs of everyday goods. The expectation is that the headline rate will rise to 4.2% year-on-year with a 0.5% jump in May. The big concern is that elevated wholesale energy costs are spreading and settling into the broader economy. The latest attacks in the Middle East indicate that the conflict is entrenched and increasingly hard to solve. Continue reading...

US-Iran peace talks abruptly cancelled amid renewed Israeli strikes in Lebanon | First Thing
JD Vance lambasted Israeli critics of the proposed deal, but did not travel to Europe as planned. Plus, at 82 years old, Keith Richards still gives some of the best interview quotes in town Good morning. Talks set to take place today between the US and Iran to implement a peace deal were abruptly cancelled. The White House said the US still looked forward to “beginning technical talks as soon as possible”. Hezbollah-linked media reported Tehran was delaying sending its delegation due to Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Lebanon. The talks were set to begin in the Swiss village of Obbürgen two days after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that opened a 60-day window to negotiate a permanent agreement over Iran’s nuclear programme, while reopening the strait of Hormuz. The centre of the strait is blocked with about 80 mines that will need clearing for normal shipping to resume, the independent tanker owner trade body has said. What is happening in Lebanon? Hezbollah targeted Israeli forces near Nabatieh with several salvoes of rocket fire after Israeli shelling. Israel responded with a wave of airstrikes, killing at least 18 people and injuring 33. Iran has said Israel’s attacks on Lebanon must end as part of any peace deal. What did JD Vance say to Israeli critics of the deal? In sharp words, the vice-president said: “Donald J Trump is the only head of state in the entire world who is sympathetic to the nation of Israel at this moment in time. If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have anywhere left in the entire world.” Why does Trump’s Iran entanglement echo the Jimmy Carter years? In this excellent analysis piece Robert Tait reminds us that one of Trump’s earliest political forays was lambasting the Democratic president during the 1980 Iran hostage crisis. Trump, Tait says, now finds himself in a position that uncannily resembles that of his predecessor – unable to bend Iran to his will despite superior US military power. Continue reading...

US and Iran set for new talks after delay and deadly strikes

Before boarding his flight to Europe, Vance told reporters he hoped to "make progress on the nuclear issue, make progress on the Lebanon ceasefire issue. Those are the two big things that I think we're going to be focused on".

ABD-İran Mutabakatına Rağmen İsrail Güney Lübnan’da 4 Kişiyi Öldürdü
ABD ile İran arasında ateşkesi uzatma ve Hürmüz Boğazı’nı yeniden açma yönünde bir anlayışa varıldığı duyurulurken, İsrail ordusu Lübnan’ın güneyinde insansız hava araçlarıyla düzenlediği saldırılarda 4 kişiyi öldürdü. Saldırılar, Nebatiye kentine bağlı Meyfedun ve Şevkin beldelerinde üç aracı hedef aldı. ABD Başkanı Trump, İran’la nükleer anlaşma sağlanamaması halinde saldırıları yeniden başlatmakla tehdit ederken, anlaşmanın bölge genelinde şiddeti azaltması bekleniyordu. BM, mutabakat duyurusunun ardından Lübnan’daki çatışmalarda düşüş gözlemlediğini açıklasa da İsrail’in ateşkes sürecine rağmen sürdürdüğü operasyonlar dikkat çekti. Avrupa Birliği, Lübnan’ın da ateşkes kapsamına alınması gerektiğini vurgulayarak Lübnan ordusuna 100 milyon avroluk yardım paketini onayladı. İsrail’in saldırıları, ABD-İran mutabakatının kâğıt üzerinde kalabileceğine dair kaygıları artırırken, İran Devrim Muhafızları’nın “eller tetikte” açıklaması gerilimin sürebileceğini gösteriyor. Uzmanlar, ateşkesin kalıcı olması için tüm tarafların sahada itidal göstermesi gerektiğini belirtiyor.

İsrail'den Yeni Tahliye Emirleri; ABD Koordinasyonuyla Lübnan'da Derinleşen Operasyon
İsrail ordusu, 30 Mayıs 2026 Cumartesi günü yayımladığı yeni tahliye emirleriyle Lübnan'ın güneyinde Litani Nehri'ni aşarak operasyonlarını genişletti. Ordu birliklerinin nehrin kuzeyine ilerlediği bildirilirken, Hizbullah kuzey İsrail'e roket saldırıları düzenledi. İsrail'in Kanal 15 televizyonuna dayandırılan haberlere göre bu tırmanış, ABD yönetimiyle yakın koordinasyon içinde gerçekleştirildi. Haberler, Washington'un İsrail'in Lübnan'daki askeri operasyonlarının derinleştirilmesindeki rolüne dikkat çekiyor.

Uluslararası toplumun dikkati İran’a yönelmişken, Lübnan’daki yıkımın onarımı için kaynak bulunup bulunamayacağı belirsizliğini koruyor.

İsrail’in Sur saldırılarında 6 ölü; Hizbullah ateşkesi reddetti
