Italy is providing 3.5 million euros through the FAO to support agriculture in Odessa

(ANSA) - ROMA, 06 NOV - The Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, signed a protocol for a 3.5 million euro contribution from the Italian government, made available through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), to finance an emergency project in support of the Ukrainian agricultural sector. The document was signed with Shakhnoza Muminova, FAO Representative in Ukraine, in the presence of Denys Bashlyk, Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister for Agricultural Policy and Food. The initiative, implemented through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will focus on the Odessa region and aims to protect crops, reduce post-harvest losses, and support the continuity of agricultural activities, including in preparation for the upcoming growing season. The Italian funding includes two main lines of action. The first involves the supply of 800 flexible agricultural product storage systems (grain sleeves), each with a capacity of approximately 200 metric tons, for a total nominal capacity of 160,000 metric tons, benefiting approximately 250 agricultural producers. The second component involves the distribution of 1,145 vouchers worth $2,000 each, intended for small and medium-sized farmers in the Odessa region to purchase agricultural inputs needed for the 2027 production cycle.
