    Carolina G. Azevedo

Carolina G. Azevedo Chief of the Communication Branch Elayne Wangalwa 30 Oct. 2026 3.14 p.m. Carolina brings over 26 years of professional experience, including 20 years across the United Nations in country and headquarters roles and in conflict and crisis settings. She served as Spokesperson and Chief of Strategic Communications for the UN Mission in Colombia during the peace process. A member of the Senior Management Team of the UN Development Coordination Office since 2019, she first served as Chief of Communications and Results Reporting, leading corporate and country-level results reporting to Member States, and currently serves as Chief of Strategic Communications and Information Integrity, leading global support across the Resident Coordinator system and a communications network serving more than 130 UN country teams. Her work spans crisis communications, data storytelling, reputational risk, information integrity, responsible AI, digital transformation, behavioral science and partnerships, with a focus on positioning communications as trust infrastructure—so that people can find reliable information in languages they understand as AI increasingly reshapes how information is discovered. Carolina began her career as a broadcast journalist, including as a foreign correspondent in Berlin, which shaped her newsroom instincts and enduring focus on clarity, evidence and audiences. She has also held communications leadership roles with UNDP at headquarters and with UNODC in Brazil and the Southern Cone. A Brazilian national, she holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University (2025), focused on AI and climate policy, where she was a Mary L. Deibel Fellow; an MSc in International Development from the London School of Economics as a Chevening Scholar; an MBA from Fundação Getulio Vargas; and a BA in Journalism from PUC-Rio. She is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, has a working knowledge of French and a basic knowledge of German.
