Case against Shahkot SHO for abduction, misuse of authority

SAHIWAL: The Shahkot station house officer (SHO) was suspended from service and booked for the alleged abduction and misuse of authority by the regional police officer (RPO) here on Wednesday. According to reports, Shahkot SHO Imtiaz Hussain Noon revived a four-year-old theft case originally filed by one Nasir Mahmood Masood against unknown suspects. The SHO recorded a supplementary statement from the complainant and arrested their rivals Mohsin Pervaiz, Pervaiz Iqbal and Qamar Zaman and named them as accused in the case. It is alleged that the SHO abducted three members of the same family from Chak 92/12-L. After a writ petition was filed in the Lahore High Court on Sept 17, the court ordered the Sahiwal RPO to produce the accused before the court. However, SHO Imtiaz failed to comply with the court order despite receiving it on Sept 16 and the accused were not presented before the court. Following the high court’s notice, RPO Rana Ayaz Saleem directed the DSP (Legal) to conduct an inquiry. On Sept 19, SHO Imtiaz was found guilty in the inquiry and the DSP (Legal) recommended registration of a case against him. Acting on the RPO’s orders, SHO Imtiaz was suspended and a case was registered against him on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Tariq Javed of Shahkot Police on Tuesday evening. The accused had not been arrested till the filing of this report. BOOKED: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly ‘abducted’ from her divorced mother by her father and 11 armed accomplices during an attack near village Thatha Araiyan on Tuesday night. Two brothers of the girl’s mother were critically injured in gunfire and axe attacks during the incident. Reports said Reema married Jabbar 11 years ago and the couple had a daughter, Arooj. Reema got a divorce from Jabbar three months ago following repeated incidents of domestic violence and started living with her aunt, Neelam, while keeping her daughter with her. On the night of the incident, Jabbar, accompanied by Abbas, Nasir, Aashiq, Rao, Aamir, Shan, Amjad and four unidentified armed men, allegedly stormed Neelam’s house and forcibly took away Arooj. When Reema’s brothers, Salman and Amanat, resisted the ‘abduction’, the attackers allegedly opened fire on them and assaulted them with axes, leaving both critically injured. The suspects reportedly fled with the girl on a loader rickshaw and motorcycles. The injured men were shifted to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, where one of them was stated to be in serious condition. Later, Noor Shah police registered a case under Sections 149, 148, 363 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Neelam Riaz.
