KP CM Afridi raises concerns over Imran Khan’s health

    • Demands meetings with family and lawyers, access for ex-PM’s private doctors • TTAP leaders claim govt has failed on economic, political fronts ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has expressed grave concern over the official medical report regarding the health of Imran Khan, saying that the reported condition has caused deep concern across the country. Speaking at a press conference, he said Imran Khan’s personal doctors, family, legal team and the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) would consult among themselves and determine a clear course of action in light of the situation. The chief minister said that whenever Imran Khan’s personal physicians, Dr Asim and Dr Faisal, had accompanied him and checked his blood pressure, it had consistently been within the normal range. He said the report of elevated blood pressure in the official medical report was therefore a matter of serious concern, particularly given the previous assessments conducted by his personal doctors. He said that neither Imran Khan’s family members, lawyers nor personal physicians had been allowed to meet him since Dec 2, 2025. “In these circumstances, the emergence of an official medical report raises serious questions about his actual health condition,” he said, adding that the lack of direct access had heightened public concern. Afridi said Imran Khan was a sportsman who had maintained a physically active lifestyle and had not previously faced an issue of this nature. He said that when Imran Khan was taken into custody, he was in excellent physical condition, whereas the health concerns now being reported had emerged during his incarceration. “For 250 million people, the judiciary remains the last avenue of hope. If a former prime minister, the leader of the country’s largest political party and its most popular political leader cannot receive justice, what confidence can an ordinary citizen place in the justice system?” he asked. Mr Afridi noted that Tuesday (today) was also the designated day for meetings between Imran Khan and his lawyers and family members. He appealed to the judiciary to ensure that these meetings took place without obstruction. He reiterated his demands for the restoration of meetings between Imran Khan and his lawyers and family members, access for his personal physicians, and treatment at the best available hospital under the supervision of his personal doctors and in the presence of his family. TTAP presser Meanwhile, leaders of Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) held a press conference, alleging that the incumbent government’s policies had failed and that the country was facing severe financial difficulties. Former Sindh governor Zubair Umar claimed that all cases against Imran were fabricated and should be withdrawn. He said the system had collapsed and that 120 million people were living below the poverty line. Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra said the current government lacked a mandate and called for free and fair elections to put the country back on track. He said it was unfortunate that both the media and judiciary remained silent. TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai said Imran should have been shifted to a private hospital, but the government had ignored the demands, resulting in a deterioration of the PTI founding chairman’s health. However, he rejected the official report and demanded that Imran’s personal physicians be allowed to examine him. Published in Dawn, August 18th, 2026
