    (ANSA) - ROMA, 30 GIU - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that Andrea Cavallari has assumed the post of Italian Ambassador to Oslo. Born in Milan on October 29, 1961, after earning a diploma in International Relations from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris in 1983 and a Maitrise in International Economics from the Université de Paris-Dauphine in 1984, he received his degree in Political Science from the University of Pavia in 1985. Following a competitive examination, he entered the diplomatic service on February 15, 1988. After holding several initial posts at the Directorate General for Political Affairs, the Minister’s Office, and the Information and Research Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as First Secretary in Budapest beginning in 1992. In 1995, he was posted to the Embassy in New Delhi, where he served as head of the Office of Economic, Commercial, and Development Cooperation. In 1998, he returned to Rome, where he served in the Directorate General for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2002, he was posted to New York as First Counselor at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, where he worked on human rights and social affairs (Third Committee). Since 2006, he has served as First Counselor at the Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, acting as Deputy Permanent Representative. In 2009, he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served in the Directorate General for Multilateral Political Cooperation and Human Rights as head of the Office for Disarmament, Arms Control, Nonproliferation, and the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Since 2011, he has also served as acting Deputy Director General/Central Director for Security, Disarmament, and Nonproliferation. From 2012 to 2016, he served as Consul General in Paris. In 2016, he served in the Republic’s diplomatic protocol office. From 2017 to 2022, he served as Italy’s Ambassador to Nicosia. In 2022, he returned to Rome to serve at the Directorate General for Europe and International Trade Policy as coordinator for cross-border cooperation with France, and since 2023 has also served as acting Deputy Director General/Central Director for European Countries. In 2024, he assumed the position of head of the Unit for Cross-Border Cooperation within the Directorate General for Europe and International Trade Policy, while also continuing to serve as acting Deputy Director General/Central Director for European Countries. This year, he was appointed Italian Ambassador to Norway. Since 2006, he has been an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Read article...
