Police on Friday registered a first information report (FIR) against a woman’s husband and his cousin after her body was found inside a house in Rawalpindi. According to a statement issued by Outer Saddar police, the woman’s body was found inside a room of the residential premises in the garrison city. “A case has been registered under murder charges on the complaint of the woman’s brother,” the police spokesperson said, adding that the woman’s husband and his cousin had been named in the FIR and taken into custody for questioning. Police said an investigation was underway. “The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be determined in light of the post-mortem and forensic reports,” the spokesperson elaborated. The spokesperson added that the case would be concluded on the basis of the findings of the post-mortem and forensic reports, assuring that the investigation would be conducted on merit and in a transparent manner. According to the FIR lodged by the woman’s brother, she had been married for around two years and had a one-year-old son. The case was registered under Sections 302 (Qatl-i-Amd) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code. “Since the marriage, my sister and her husband frequently had disagreements as my brother-in-law would often talk to other women on the phone and spend most of his time outside the house,” the complainant alleged. He added that his brother-in-law was employed in Dubai and had returned to Pakistan four months ago. The complainant further alleged that his brother-in-law had been “torturing” his sister and subjecting her to mental stress for the past three to four days. “Last night, at around 7:30pm, I spoke to my sister’s mother, who told me that her in-laws had been causing her a great deal of distress,” he claimed in the FIR. “At around 10:20pm, I called my sister’s mobile number. My brother-in-law’s sister answered the call and told me that my sister had died by suicide,” the complainant alleged. He said that after receiving the information, he went to the house with his brother, where they found the woman dead. The complainant further alleged that his sister had been murdered by her husband, his cousin and other unidentified persons. “I saw that my sister had fresh henna applied to her hands,” he added. “I hold my sister’s husband and his cousin responsible and request that legal action be taken against them,” the woman’s brother stated in the FIR. Last month, the tortured body of a woman was found hanging in her washroom in the limits of Civil Lines police.
