An art exhibition dedicated to St. Francis is being held in Siedlce, Poland

(ANSA) - VARSAVIA, 04 SET - As a guest of the Diocese of Siedlce, the Italian ambassador to Poland, Luca Franchetti Pardo, inaugurated the exhibition titled “Patron Saints of Everyday Life” at the Diocesan Museum, marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis. The exhibition features works by El Greco, Luca Signorelli, Luca Giordano, and other important masters, on loan from various Italian museums. In the presence of Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Antonio Filipazzi, Regional President Adam Struzik, and representatives of civil and ecclesiastical authorities, Ambassador Franchetti Pardo first recalled the recent reinstatement of October 4—the feast day of St. Francis— “the holiest of Italians and the most Italian of saints”—as a National Holiday. The ambassador then emphasized that, for Italian diplomacy, promoting the legacy of St. Francis is not merely a cultural diplomacy initiative, but a way to highlight the inspiration that Italy’s foreign policy continues to draw from the saint’s message. “The pursuit of peace, respect for Creation, and the ability to foster dialogue among people of different faiths and backgrounds,” observed Franchetti Pardo, “are, in fact, universal Franciscan values that guide Italy’s international actions.” In addition to the local collection, the exhibition includes eleven masterpieces on loan from Italy’s most prestigious collections, such as the Vatican Museums, the Barberini Palace in Rome, and the Museum of San Marco in Florence. A unique feature of the project is the unusual juxtaposition of two works by El Greco. On loan directly from the Vatican, the painting *Resurrection* has been hung in close proximity to the *Ecstasy of Saint Francis*, a painting discovered by chance in a parish in the Siedlce area back in 1964 and, after verification, attributed in 1974 to the Spanish painter of Greek origin Dominikos Theotokopoulou, known as El Greco.
