Senior police officer among 10 killed by Israeli fire in Gaza
CAIRO: An Israeli strike and gunfire killed at least 10 Palestinians, including a 10-year-old boy, and a senior Hamas police officer, in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Gazan health and police officials said. The deaths add to a toll of more than 1,100 Palestinians killed by Israeli attacks since an October ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect, according to health officials in the enclave. The truce halted major fighting but has failed to stop sporadic violence. Four Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza over the same period. Medics said Muataz Abu Shaar, 10, was shot on Tuesday by Israeli gunfire in Rafah, southern Gaza. Senior police officer killed In Jabalia, in the north of the enclave, an Israeli airstrike on a post of the Hamas-led police force killed at least seven people, including a woman, and wounded several other people, medics and police officials said. The Hamas-led interior ministry said in a statement the dead included the head of the Jabalia police force, Colonel Mohammad Marwan Salem, along with other officers. The Israeli military said in a statement it killed Salem, whom it described as the head of Hamas’ central Jabalia battalion, along with three other militants of the group. Those killed have in recent months gathered with the goal of planning and carrying out attacks, it added. “They were eliminated in order to remove the threat.” Israel wants Hamas to cede control of Gaza and disarm, and while the group said it was ready to relinquish power, it has always resisted calls to lay down arms. Later on Tuesday, a Palestinian was killed and several others were wounded near a mosque in western Gaza City, medics said, taking Tuesday’s death toll to at least 10. In Khan Younis, in the south, an Israeli airstrike killed a 36-year-old man and left three people wounded, medics said. Peace talks The latest violence comes as Hamas leaders visited Cairo for further talks on implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. The discussions include Hamas disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals, according to sources close to the talks, who said little progress had been made in the past weeks towards reaching a broad agreement to end the conflict. Hamas says Israel’s violations of the ceasefire are a key obstacle to implementing the second phase of Trump’s plan. Nearly all of Gaza’s two million people, most of whom have been displaced several times, now live on a tiny strip of land along the coast, mainly in makeshift tents or damaged buildings, under Hamas control. An Israeli airstrike on Saturday killed the head of the police force in the northern Gaza Strip, Brigadier-General Abdel-Nasser Al-Maqadma, the enclave’s interior ministry and medics said. Maqadma, one of at least five Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes on Saturday, was also known as the governor of the northern Gaza Strip. He was killed in the Sheikh Radwan area north of Gaza City, medics said. The Israeli military claimed he was part of Hamas’ military wing. Israel has killed dozens of members of the police force, including senior officials, in the past months, accusing many of them of being members of the Hamas armed wing. Israel targets mosque in Gaza under ‘Hamas weapons dump’ pretext
A fireball rises after an Israeli air strike on the Al-Muttaqin Mosque.—Reuters GAZA CITY: The Israeli military on Wednesday admitted to bombing a mosque in the Gaza Strip, which it alleged was being used as a weapons storage facility by Hamas. Photos showed fire and a huge plume of smoke rising above tents housing displaced Palestinians after a strike on the Al-Muttaqin Mosque, near the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) building. People could be seen combing through vast piles of rubble and debris in the aftermath of the attack. Amir Abu Al-Amrain, the director general of the ministry of awqaf and religious affairs in the Gaza Strip, said Israeli forces had “completely destroyed” the mosque in the air strike. “The occupation cites false pretexts — such as the alleged presence of military sites — to justify these crimes,” he said, calling for urgent intervention to protect mosques and places of worship. As of March 24, 2026, the UN’s cultural agency Unesco had verified damage to 164 sites since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza. Fourteen of those are religious sites. “Israeli warplanes carried out a series of air strikes focusing on central and northern Gaza”, said Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Deir el-Balah. “Yes, the whole area was warned, but a very narrow window of time was given for people to take precautionary measures,” he said. “Is this a ceasefire? Every day there are attacks, every hour, every breath. There are attacks everywhere. They threaten and strike, whether it’s civilian vehicles or anything else they bomb,” Shehadeh Badawi, an eyewitness, told AFP in the aftermath. Israel killed one person in a separate strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp. The strike targeted a group of Palestinians in a busy market, killing one Palestinian and wounding at least 20 others. Meanwhile, eight Palestinians fled their home in Abu Najim, near Bethlehem, after Israeli settlers set fire to the building, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. Settlers also torched a car and sprayed graffiti on the walls of the building before setting it ablaze, according to locals. There has been a rise in settler violence targeting Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, as lynch mobs attack people in their own homes or in public spaces. Israel conveys 'comments, concerns' to US on Gaza plan, says version made public does not reflect its position
Israel has conveyed concerns to the United States on a Gaza plan hailed by President Donald Trump after Hamas said it had agreed on disarmament, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said on Monday. “Israel has conveyed its comments and concerns on the proposed framework to our American counterparts. The version that has been made public does not reflect Israel’s positions,” Doron Spielman, spokesman for the prime minister’s office, told AFP. He alleged that Israeli intelligence had found that Hamas had been rearming and recruiting forces since a ceasefire announced by Trump in October, which has reduced the level of violence although Israel has kept up strikes. Hamas announced on Friday that it had agreed to the next stage of a deal that includes handing over weapons to a nascent Palestinian governing committee. Trump called the move a “major milestone” in efforts to end the devastating war and told reporters that Israel was “very happy” about the developments. But Netanyahu’s spokesman said that Hamas’s actions showed it was preparing for “further October 7-style massacres” and noted that the plan released by Trump’s Board of Peace called for Gaza to be “a deradicalised terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbours”. “That vision stands in direct contrast to the current reality and to Hamas’s stated intentions. The indispensable first step toward any lasting arrangement is the genuine, verifiable and irreversible demilitarisation of Hamas,” he said. “Anything short of full demilitarisation will leave Hamas with the capability to threaten Israel again.” An Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, earlier said that Israel, which still controls most of the Gaza Strip, would not withdraw forces under the plan without verifying disarmament by Hamas. Israel kept up strikes after the Hamas announcement, with Palestinian authorities on Sunday reporting that Israeli attacks killed at least 13 people. In the first 1,000 days of Israel’s attacks on Gaza since Oct 7, 2023, over 73,000 Palestinians had been killed, according to Palestinian authorities.

Hamas says still ready to go ahead with Gaza plan
Hamas said on Saturday it remained ready to proceed with a US-backed Gaza peace plan and urged pressure on Israel, which insists it did not agree to the latest part of the deal. Hamas informed US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace that it stood by the latest stage of the plan, under which the group would hand over weapons to a nascent Palestinian governing committee in the war-battered territory. “Hamas and other factions have confirmed to mediators their readiness to begin implementing the agreement and move to the second phase, provided it receives Israeli approval and that Israel begins implementing the agreement,” a Hamas official told AFP. “Hamas is urging the US administration to exert pressure on Israel to compel it to abide by the agreement and move to the second phase,” the official said on condition of anonymity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces a tough reelection fight in October and wide opposition from his right-wing base to the Gaza deal, said on Tuesday that Israel had not agreed to the “draft” presented by the Board of Peace. Trump last week hailed as a breakthrough that Hamas had agreed to disarmament under the plan, with the Board of Peace saying Israel would in tandem carry out a phased withdrawal from much of Gaza. Netanyahu met Monday with the Board of Peace’s high representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, who backtracked and said Israel would withdraw only after a full disarmament by Hamas. Israel’s military also vowed to keep hitting the Palestinian group. But Israeli attacks in Gaza, while ongoing, appear to have decreased in intensity in recent days. On Saturday, the Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis reported three people injured by Israeli army gunfire. Israel has killed 1,257 Palestinians since October last year, when the two sides agreed to a ceasefire backed by Trump, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The Israeli army has reported five deaths in its ranks during the same period.

Penny Wong'dan İsrail'e: Gazze'deki ölümcül saldırı kararı aşağılayıcı
Avustralya Dışişleri Bakanı Penny Wong, İsrail hükümetinin 2024'te Gazze'de insani yardım konvoyuna düzenlenen ve Avustralyalı yardım görevlisi Zomi Frankcom'un ölümüne yol açan üçlü insansız hava aracı saldırısıyla ilgili IDF personeli hakkında cezai kovuşturma başlatmama kararını 'aşağılayıcı' olarak nitelendirdi ve öfke duyduğunu açıkladı. Wong, İsrail'in Canberra Büyükelçisi'ni Dışişleri Bakanlığı'na çağıracağını belirtti.

El-Sayed'in adaylığı, Biden döneminde Gazze'ye yönelik tutum nedeniyle partiden soğuyan seçmenleri ilerici bir alternatif etrafında topluyor.
