Success in Sofia for the 80th Italian Republic Day

(ANSA) - SOFIA, 05 GIU - On June 3, in the “Bulgaria Hall” of the Sofia Philharmonic, a celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic was held, organized by the Italian Embassy in Bulgaria. For the occasion, the Italian Ambassador to Sofia, Marcello Apicella, invited officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and members of the vibrant Italian community in Bulgaria to a concert by pianists Giorgia Tomassi and Carlo Maria Griguoli, who performed a program of timeless pieces composed by Ennio Morricone, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Witold Ludosławski. The concert was followed by a reception, during which guests sampled Italian culinary and wine specialties. Numerous dignitaries attended the celebration, including the Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Ivan Vassilev; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hristo Polendakov; and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radi Naydenov. Addressing the approximately 700 guests in attendance, Ambassador Apicella highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Italy and Bulgaria, underpinned by the historic friendship between the Italian and Bulgarian peoples. The ambassador then shared with those present the heartfelt letter addressed by the hero of the Italian Risorgimento, Giuseppe Garibaldi, to Bulgarian patriots following the April Uprising of 1876, the 150th anniversary of which falls this year. Reviewing the key achievements of the past year—the 147th since the establishment of bilateral relations—the ambassador highlighted the contribution of the Italian Command of the NATO Multinational Battlegroup stationed in Novo Selo and the ratification of thethe bilateral agreement on the joint construction and management of an Italian-Bulgarian military base in Kabile, confirming Italy’s commitment to safeguarding the security of the Alliance’s eastern flank. He then recalled the enormous success of the ‘Grande Partenza’ of the 109th Giro d’Italia in Bulgaria, which showcased the excellence of Italian-made products to the local public, while offering a unique opportunity to promote Bulgarian tourism to a global audience. Finally, the ambassador recalled the numerous visits he has made throughout Bulgaria, which have allowed him to witness firsthand the tireless contribution of Italian entrepreneurs and investors to the flourishing of trade and the strength of bilateral relations.
