In Singapore, children can study Italian starting in preschool
(ANSA) - ROMA, 29 OTT - The German European School Singapore (GESS) launched the Italian Mother Tongue Program, with the participation of the Italian Ambassador, Dante Brandi. Aimed at students whose native language is Italian, the new program is integrated into the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and offers Italian-speaking families an opportunity to support their children’s language development. Activities will begin in January 2027 in preschool and will be expanded to elementary and secondary school starting in August of the same year. Students will thus be able to strengthen their language skills during school hours, following an educational path that accompanies various stages of their education. The introduction of Italian even at the preschool level is particularly significant in a context such as Singapore’s, where its teaching has traditionally been concentrated primarily at the university level. The initiative responds to the interest of families who wish to pass on their language to their children and keep alive their connection to Italy’s cultural heritage. The launch comes just a few days after the conclusion of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, held under the theme “A Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing, and Creating with Italian.” Sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the event highlighted the role of Italian as a language of culture, creativity, and innovation. GESS’s new initiative ideally carries forward this message by bringing Italian into the classroom, starting with the youngest students. Read article...

Ambassador De Martino Inaugurates the Dante Alighieri Society’s Language Labs in Cuba
(ANSA) - ROMA, 30 OTT - As part of Italian Language Week in Cuba, Italian Ambassador Simona De Martino inaugurated the language labs at Casa Garibaldi, the headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society in Cuba. This is one of the first concrete results of the program for training, architectural restoration, and sociocultural revitalization in Havana’s Historic Center. The program is carried out by the International Italo-Latin American Organization (IILA) and the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, with funding from Italian Cooperation. Thanks to this initiative, the classrooms have been renovated and equipped to offer more modern, functional, and welcoming spaces, thereby strengthening the teaching of the Italian language and the promotion of Italian culture in Cuba. Each renovated classroom represents an invitation to learn, engage in dialogue, and build ever-closer ties between the two nations. The “La Mina” project also participated in the event, supporting the initiative through recycling activities, ensuring responsible waste management, and helping to reduce the event’s environmental impact.
