In France, a tribute was paid to the 592 Italian fallen soldiers buried in the Soupir Military Cemetery

(ANSA) - PARIGI, 21 OTT - The memory of the fallen Italian soldiers and the responsibility to pass on their legacy to future generations were at the heart of the commemoration held at the Italian Military Cemetery in Soupir, in the department of Aisne, France. During yesterday’s ceremony, the Consul General of Italy in Paris, Jacopo Albergoni, paid tribute to the 592 Italian soldiers buried there. Belonging to the Second Army Corps, commanded by General Albricci, they fought in World War I alongside French troops, contributing to the defense of a country with which Italy shares a deep friendship. Addressing in particular the students of the “Leonardo da Vinci” State High School in Paris, the Consul General recalled how many of the fallen were the same age as the students, or only slightly older. This served as a reminder of the human dimension of that sacrifice and the value of remembrance as a commitment to understanding the present. In light of ongoing conflicts, starting with the war in Ukraine, the Consul General emphasized the European Union’s role in promoting peace and the fundamental contribution of cooperation between Italy and France. He then urged young people to cultivate a knowledge of history, openness toward others, and an awareness of their responsibilities in society—values through which to carry forward the commitment of those who built a Europe of peace. The laying of wreaths at the war memorial, the recitation of the Soldier’s Prayer, and the playing of the Italian and French national anthems concluded the ceremony, renewing—in memory of the fallen—the bond between the two countries and the commitment to preserve their memory. The commemoration was attended by the Defense Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Paris, Air Force Brigadier General Girolamo Iadicicco, and local French authorities. Read article...
