Memorandum of Understanding between the University for Foreigners of Perugia and Yerevan State University

(ANSA) - ROMA, 21 OTT - Universities, academies, and schools of all levels in Armenia celebrated the 26th edition of Italian Language Week Around the World, dedicated to the theme “Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing, and Creating with Italian.” The guest of honor for the Week was the Italian writer of Armenian origin, Antonia Arslan. Following Ambassador Ferranti’s introductory remarks at the opening ceremony, held at Yerevan State University, Arslan delivered a presentation on language as a creative tool, also emphasizing the importance of language for individual identity and the pain resulting from its loss or deprivation—an experience shared by many Armenians who, like her, grew up far from their homeland. Subsequently, Antonia Arslan presented the Western Armenian translation of her book *The Book of Mush* at the Zangak bookstore in Yerevan. Ambassador Ferranti also welcomed Arslan to the Residence, along with several representatives of the Italian cultural community in Armenia from the academic, journalistic, and religious spheres. This convivial gathering provided an opportunity for dialogue and the exchange of experiences at the crossroads between Italy and Armenia, where the Italian language is playing an increasingly prominent role as a tool for connection and sharing. Earlier in the week, Yerevan also hosted a delegation from the University for Foreigners of Perugia—which is celebrating the centennial of its founding this year—composed of Sabrina Stroppa, full professor of Italian Literature; Roberto Vetrugno, associate professor in the Department of Italian Language, Literature, and Arts in the World; and Corrado Losito, head of the university’s International Relations Office. The delegation, accompanied by Ambassador Ferranti, signed a memorandum of understanding at V. Brusov State University with Rector Davit Gyurjinyan. The agreement between the two universities represents a step forward in academic cooperation between Armenia and Italy and aims to strengthen scientific and cultural cooperation between the two institutions, as well as to promote the teaching of the Italian language in Armenia. Finally, faculty members from the University of Perugia gave lectures to students in the Faculty of European Languages and Communication at Yerevan State University and to students in the Department of Italian Studies at V. Brusov State University. Read article...
