(ANSA) - MADRID, 05 SET - Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi visited the Amerigo Vespucci, “the most beautiful ship in the world,” in Cádiz, Andalusia, during its final international stop on the 2026 training campaign, in which the sailing ship crossed the Atlantic Ocean to take part in the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America. In his speech, the ambassador praised the role of the Amerigo Vespucci—built in 1931 in Castellammare di Stabia—as a symbol of dialogue, beauty, and the perfect synthesis of tradition and innovation. The Vespucci helps promote awareness and appreciation of the Italian tricolor around the world. On board the sailing ship, the ambassador met with the mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García de León, and with the deputy delegate of the Government, Blanca del Pilar Flores Cueto. The Amerigo Vespucci’s stay in the Andalusian city allowed the captain, Captain Nicasio Falica, and the Defense Attaché in Madrid, Captain Massimiliano Siragusa, to meet with Mayor García de León himself, the Deputy Government Delegate del Pilar Flores Cueto, numerous local civil and military authorities, and the Italian community residing in Andalusia. The crew and the 163 officer cadets on board had the opportunity to explore the city and welcome local residents aboard, renewing the dialogue between peoples and cultures that has always accompanied the ship’s presence in ports around the world.
