    Another femicide suspected, near Potenza

(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 21 - Italy on Friday saw another suspected femicide in a recent wave that has hit the country, with a woman found dead in her home near Potenza in Basilicata and her son has been taken in for questioning. The Potenza Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating for murder following the death of Maria Vittoria Carbone, 57, last night in Tito (Potenza). Her 30-year-old son has been questioned by investigators, according to investigative sources. According to preliminary findings, the woman had gone to her son's home, who lives in an apartment adjacent to that of his father, from whom she had been divorced for some time. Investigators, coordinated by prosecutor Francesco Russo, also interviewed her ex-husband, who was in the apartment next door, and some of the woman's friends and family. Italy was already facing a fresh femicide wave with six other women killed by their partners or exes since the mid-August Ferragosto holiday last Saturday. The latest two were on Tuesday, a 72-year-old woman bludgeoned to death with a rock by her 74-year-old husband in a field near Cosenza in Calabria and a 50-year-old Polish woman stabbed to death by her 69-year-old Tunisian husband at Colleferro south of Rome. Previously, on Monday, a 39-year-old woman was killed by her 43-year-old ex husband near Venice after having reported him to police several times for domestic violence, and after it emerged that he had been reported by three other women since 2002. Femicide has been classed as a national emergency in Italy with murderous violence against women hitting new heights. A specific new offence of femicide has been put onto the country's law books. A campaign of education for young males towards healthy relationships was partly stymied when the government made it conditional on parent approval to take part.in courses in Italy's schools. (ANSA).
