Conference in Yerevan on advances in astrophysics, cosmology, and astronomy

(ANSA) - ROMA, 16 GIU - "Scientific research and technological innovation constitute a universal language capable of uniting peoples and nations in a shared aspiration for knowledge and progress. From this perspective, scientific diplomacy represents an essential tool for strengthening bilateral relations and promoting shared growth based on the exchange of expertise and academic excellence.” This was stated by the Italian Ambassador to Armenia, Alessandro Ferranti, upon opening the International Conference on High Energy Astrophysics and Cosmology in the Era of All-Sky Surveys (Heacoss2026) in Yerevan, a scientific event dedicated to the latest advances in the fields of astrophysics, cosmology, and astronomy. The conference, which concludes on June 19, is being held at the Nairi Conference Hall of the Ani Hotel in Yerevan and is jointly organized by Icranet (International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics Network) Armenia and the Italian Embassy, with the support of the Committee for Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. The conference brings together over 100 researchers from universities, astronomical observatories, and research institutes in 20 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas with the aim of fostering scientific exchange and exploring the opportunities and challenges arising from the growing availability of data acrossentire electromagnetic spectrum and from new observational windows on the Universe, to encourage discussion of future theoretical developments and the strengthening of international cooperation, fostering new collaborations. In his remarks, the ambassador highlighted the central role played by IcraNet in promoting research in the field of relativistic astrophysics and in strengthening dialogue among scientific communities worldwide. Since its founding, the Organization has in fact contributed significantly to the development of scientific collaboration between Italy and Armenia, the founding countries, by creating valuable opportunities for cooperation, training, and exchange for researchers and institutions. Referring to Italy’s long scientific tradition in the fields of astronomy and physics, the ambassador also highlighted Italy’s contribution to Europe’s most advanced research infrastructures, including the Einstein Telescope (ET), the future third-generation underground observatory dedicated to the study of gravitational waves, which is set to open new perspectives in understanding the Universe and verifying the predictions of Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Italy aims to host the construction of this advanced interferometer in Sardinia, at the Sos Enattos site in Lula (Nuoro). The conference features numerous speakers from Italian institutions, including: Remo Ruffini (IcraNet Italia), Massimo Della Valle (Padua Astronomical Observatory), Michele Doro (University of Padua), Luca Izzo (INAF), and Giorgio Matt (Roma Tre University).
