A grand celebration at the Berlin Embassy to mark Republic Day

(ANSA) - BERLINO, 05 GIU - A grand celebration, with approximately 1,500 guests, honored the Italian Republic in the spirit of the “indispensable” dialogue between Rome and Berlin last night at the embassy led by Fabrizio Bucci in the German capital. “Republic Day is the most symbolically significant moment of our national identity. It is an opportunity to renew those values of freedom, democracy, and peace that the Italian people courageously chose on June 2, 1946,” Bucci stated in his welcome address to the guests. Representatives from Germany’s institutional, political, economic, and cultural spheres, as well as from the Italian community, were in attendance. This year, the celebrations were part of the “Italian Week” program, a format that featured over 100 events across Germany, organized not only to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic but also the 75th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Italy and Germany. Actress Martina Klier, the evening’s host, welcomed the guests in the courtyard of the historic building, followed by a musical interlude by violinist Olem Cesari, accompanied by pianist Michael Rodi. Following the national anthems of Germany, Italy, and the EU, performed by soprano Francesca Martini accompanied by Cecilia Ferròn on violin and Martina Biondi on cello, remarks were made by Bucci and, on behalf of the German government, State Secretary Géza Andreas von Geyr. Marina Chiarelli, Councilor for Culture, Equal Opportunities, and Youth Policies of the Piedmont Region, and Christian Wiermer, State Secretary for European Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, both partners in the 2026 edition of the Embassy celebrations, then took the floor. According to a press release, Wiermer emphasized the importance of the partnership between the Piedmont Region and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, energy, autonomous mobility, semiconductors, and aerospace—topics at the center of the roundtable discussion with companies from both regions, held this afternoon at the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, as Councilor Chiarelli also noted. “The dialogue between Berlin and Rome is not merely useful: it is indispensable. And this dialogue does not belong solely to central governments. It thrives and is sustained through regional governments, business communities, academics, researchers, and, above all, young people and students,” Bucci added. Several interactive kiosks have been installed in the diplomatic mission building to showcase “Italy’s innovation,” specifically highlighting all those companies operating in sectors of strategic importance, from aerospace to transportation to energy. “Italy and Germany have a duty and a historical responsibility to spur the institutions in Brussels. We must identify rapid, effective, and concrete solutions to support the millions of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs who constitute the economic backbone and social soul of our regions and the entire continent.” The evening provided an opportunity to visit the contemporary art exhibition “Ore piccole,” organized in collaboration with the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin. As highlighted by President Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the exhibition presents a selection of works from the Foundation—ranging from photography to painting, sculpture to installation—that highlight the artistic relationship between Italy and Germany, “through the practices of Italian, German, and international artists who, in different ways, have forged a connection with Berlin, a city that has long served as an extraordinary cultural laboratory.” Read article...
