30th Anniversary of the Italy-Croatia Treaty on Minority Rights Celebrated in Zagreb
(ANSA) - ROMA, 02 OTT - This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Treaty on the Rights of Minorities between Italy and Croatia, signed in 1996 by Foreign Ministers Lamberto Dini and Mate Granić. A contemporary ballet performance held on October 1 at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb (HNK) was dedicated to this important milestone in bilateral relations, thanks to the collaboration between the Italian Embassy in Croatia, the Italian Union (UI), and the People’s University of Trieste (Upt). The performance was the diptych “Kazimir’s Colours / Rossini’s Cards,” curated by Maestro Mauro Bigonzetti. An internationally renowned choreographer, he served as principal dancer at the Rome Opera House, director of the Teatro alla Scala ballet company, and director of Aterballetto. Considered one of Italy’s most compelling choreographers, he has collaborated extensively with theaters and dance companies around the world. Ambassador Paolo Trichilo attended the event, which was a huge success with the public, including numerous compatriots from the Italian communities in Croatia. Also present were several distinguished Italian and Croatian guests, including: former Foreign Minister Mate Granić, a signatory to the Treaty and currently special advisor on foreign policy to Croatian Prime Minister Plenković; the theater’s superintendent, Iva Hraste Sočo, Knight of the Order of the Italian Star; the representative of the Italian minority in the Croatian Parliament and president of the UI, Hon. Marin Corva, and the current advisor on human rights to the Croatian Prime Minister, Furio Radin, a long-standing representative of the Italian minority in the Zagreb Parliament; the coordinator for Minorities and Exiles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Daniele Rampazzo; Edvino Jeran and Fabrizio Somma, respectively President and Secretary General of the UPT. By combining the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Treaty on the Rights of Minorities with a high-profile artistic performance, the embassy, together with the initiative’s partners, sought to highlight the added value that the Italian minority brings to bilateral relations and to renew its commitment to strengthening the minority’s essential role in consolidating the deep bonds of friendship between Italy and Croatia.
