Celebration of the 80th Italian Republic Day in Skopje

(ANSA) - SKOPJE, 09 GIU - On the terrace of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, the Italian Embassy in Skopje celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic with an event dedicated to the values of peace, dialogue, and international cooperation. In attendance were the head of state, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and the Minister of the Interior, Panche Toshkovski, and the Minister of Local Self-Government, Zlatko Pirinski. There was a large turnout from the Italian community, the diplomatic corps, and international organizations, as well as representatives of religious communities and figures from the economic, academic, and cultural spheres. On this occasion, Ambassador Paolo Palminteri reaffirmed the deep bond between Italy and North Macedonia, as friendly nations and allies, and Italy’s firm support for the path toward European integration. The Ambassador also highlighted the need to strengthen the European project through enlargement to the Western Balkans, Ukraine, and Moldova, recalling the crucial role of diplomacy: "It is up to diplomacy to safeguard the system of freedom and peaceful coexistence among states. The European Union plays a fundamental role as a common home of shared values. Cooperation among European states remains the only way to preserve our freedom and prosperity." The evening was enlivened by musical accompaniment from the military band of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia and a performance by singer Polina Taseva, who performed traditional Italian and Macedonian songs.
