Vanessa May Head of Office, Venezuela Elayne Wangalwa 9 Sep. 2026 1.32 p.m. Vanessa May was appointed as Head of Office, Venezuela, in July 2026. With over 25 years of experience in humanitarian affairs, crisis management and international cooperation, including 21 years with OCHA, Vanessa brings extensive field and headquarters expertise to the role. She previously served as Deputy Head of Office in both Myanmar and Venezuela, where she also led the Coordination Unit, and held key positions in New York, including in OCHA's External Relations and Partnerships Section and as Special Assistant to the ASG for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator. Her career with OCHA began in Colombia and has included support to humanitarian operations in Yemen and South Sudan. A Colombian national, Vanessa is a Political Scientist and holds Master’s degrees in Government, Management and Public Affairs, and in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from the Escola de Cultura de Pau, Barcelona, and Columbia University.
