Sohail Afridi-led PTI convoy receives warm welcome in Shahdadkot

LARKANA: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s central leaders, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and other senior party leaders, on Friday strongly condemned the Adiala jail superintendent for continuously disregarding judicial orders concerning PTI founder Imran Khan’s medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital. They were addressing a large number of people who accorded them a warm welcome on their arrival in Shahdadkot from Ghotki district on the second day of their five-day public mobilisation campaign in Sindh for the party’s Sept 27 protest day. PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja and its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar, as well as the party’s Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, were among those who addressed the welcome rally. While leading the street movement rallies in Shikarpur, Shahdadkot, Larkana and Naushehro Feroze, CM Afridi said the overwhelming public response to the rallies had demonstrated that the people of interior Sindh stood firmly and unequivocally with Imran Khan. Party’s five-day public mobilisation campaign in Sindh for Sept 27 protest picks up momentum; KP CM condemns Adiala Jail chief for disregarding three SC judges’ order for Imran’s treatment at Shifa International Hospital For decades, a false and misleading political narrative had been shaped that only one political party commanded the support of the people of interior Sindh, he noted, and pointed out that the response witnessed across the region today had decisively challenged that narrative, with the people of Sindh demonstrating their political strength, their commitment and their own political choice. He expressed his confidence that people from across the country would take to streets on Sept 27 to demand shifting of Imran Khan to the hospital for his medical treatment. He strongly criticised the treatment being meted out to former prime minister Imran Khan in the Adiala jail, condemning the jail superintendent for continuously disregarding the relevant court orders. “Three Supreme Court judges have issued an order recently, but the jail superintendent has thrown it into the dustbin,” he deplored, telling the audience that earlier too, courts had ordered Mr Khan’s shifting to the Shifa International Hospital but the authorities concerned did not comply with the orders. “Imran Khan is now looking towards the nation,” he said, and expressed his confidence that people across the country would come out on Sept 27 to show their support to him. He said the PTI chief had preferred incarceration over compromising with the oppressive forces for the sake of the country and the nation, and urged the masses to demonstrate their support on Sept 27. CM Afridi pointed out that crowds of people were coming out to join the PTI campaign for securing future of their children. He also criticised continued domination of the country’s political system by a few ‘established political families’. “Public resources had been used by them to buy properties abroad,” he observed, adding that powers also remained concentrated within these families. Barrister Salman Akram Raja, in his address, said that the people of Sindh “have declared a revolt against oppression and injustice”. He questioned why the people of Sindh remained deprived of basic facilities despite the province having agricultural potential. “Sindh’s land produces gold, then why its people have remained deprived of basic facilities?” he asked. He noted that people of Sindh were not getting proper educational facilities and essential services while farmers were being denied due returns on their produce. He appealed to the masses to join the Sept 27 events in large numbers, and said: “PTI’s objective is to establish rule of the poor, rule of truth and rule of the Constitution and law as Imran Khan wished and envisioned,” he said. He said Mr Khan was fighting people’s case and wanted dignity for the poor and education for their children. Mr Raja claimed that the PTI chief had been offered freedom if he withdrew from his struggle for public rights, but had turned down the same. He said government must belong to those chosen by voters. “We will move forward and protect our vote,” he declared. He expressed his confidence that people’s rule and a PTI government would eventually be established in Sindh. PTI’s KP President Junaid Akbar appealed to the people of Sindh to participate in the Sept 27 mobilisation events for the release of Imran Khan. He said that just as they had come out to welcome this PTI convoy, they should take to streets on Sept 27 as well. He expressed his confidence that the next government at the federal and provincial levels would be formed by the PTI and that Sindh would also have a PTI chief minister. Haleem Adil Sheikh criticised Pakistan Peoples Party accusing it of having a record of corruption and poor governance. He remarked that every city in Sindh was telling a new story of corruption. He claimed that right from Larkana to Karachi, cities had been turned into ruins during the entire 18-year rule of the PPP. He said farmers suffered due to water shortage and damage by floods while ordinary people in Sindh had been deprived of basic facilities, mainly education and health. “The people of Sindh have now come out,” he pointed out, and remarked that rulers had become nervous over PTI convoy’s arrival in Sindh, claiming that 29 PTI workers had been arrested in Karachi without any justification.
