“Made in Italy” Takes Center Stage at Fine Food Australia, with Record Participation

(ANSA) - ROMA, 04 SET - The 42nd edition of Fine Food Australia, Australia’s leading trade fair dedicated to the food sector, has concluded in Melbourne. Italy participated with a National Pavilion organized by ICE, which hosted 23 industry operators. The pavilion’s inauguration, led by ICE President Matteo Zoppas alongside Ambassador to Australia Nicola Lener, Consul General in Melbourne Chiara Mauri, and the newly appointed director of the ICE Office in Sydney, Alessandro Lamura, served as anan opportunity to highlight the importance of the Italian agri-food sector in Australia, which represents the third-largest category of our exports (after machinery and pharmaceuticals), with a value of approximately 900 million euros in 2025 (+5.4% compared to 2024). This figure is set to grow further thanks to the EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement—whose negotiations concluded last March—which will eliminate tariff barriers and ensure more effective protection of key Italian Geographical Indications in the Australian market. Overall, Australia is the G20 country with which Italy has the highest trade surplus relative to the volume of trade (approximately 5.4 billion in exports out of 6 billion in total trade), thanks to extremely high demand for Italian goods, driven in part by the presence of major industrial groups and the dynamism of a large and well-established community of Italians and people of Italian descent. For these reasons as well, in recent months Australia has been included among the priority markets in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Export Action Plan, which aims to guide and support the internationalization of Italian companies.
