Italy and Canada Strengthen Collaboration in Quantum Technologies

(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 03 SET - Italy and Canada are strengthening their collaboration in quantum technologies. The seminar “Building Quantum Bridges: Italy–Canada Partnership for the Quantum Future,” organized by the Scientific Office of the Italian Embassy in Canada, was held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto. The event took place on the occasion of the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding. The first was between the Centre for Quantum Information and Quantum Control (CQIQC) and three of Italy’s leading research institutions: the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the National Research Council (CNR), and the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA). The second was between the same Italian research institutions, the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo. These two agreements lay the groundwork for further strengthening and structuring bilateral collaboration in the field of quantum technologies, promoting joint scientific initiatives, exchanges among researchers, and new synergies between the research ecosystems of Italy and Canada. The scientific meeting brought together representatives from the Italian and Canadian scientific and academic communities, providing an opportunity to discuss their respective expertise in the quantum sector and potential areas of collaboration, ranging from fundamental research to the development of new technologies and applications. In attendance were Andrea Bertozzi, Consul General of Italy in Toronto; Janice Vogtle, Regional Director for Ontario at Global Affairs Canada; and, representing the Italian delegation, INFN President Antonio Zoccoli, Luigi De Dominicis (ENEA), and Stefano Fabris (CNR).
