Sindh CM Murad says govt alone can’t tackle healthcare challenges

KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday said that the challenges of healthcare could not be addressed by governments alone as they required partnership, innovation and a collective commitment to public welfare. He was speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed 11-storey Cardiac Wing of the Saifee Hospital, alongside Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. According to a press statement issued by CM House, the chief minister described the facility as a “landmark investment” in saving lives and a major addition to Karachi’s healthcare infrastructure. The wing was established under the guidance and patronage of Dawoodi Bohra community leader Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. Inaugurates Cardiac Wing of Saifee Hospital “It will provide advanced cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment, surgery, intensive care and rehabilitation services under one roof.” The inauguration ceremony was held at the Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah University Auditorium in North Nazimabad and attended by Shahzada Qusai Vajihuddin, representing Mufaddal Saifuddin, and others. The chief minister inaugurated the facility and toured its various sections. He was briefed on its medical equipment, cardiac care services, diagnostic systems and treatment facilities. Congratulating the Dawoodi Bohra community, the hospital trustees and the medical fraternity, Mr Shah said the project would benefit not only Karachi but patients from across Pakistan. He said that it was encouraging to see such a modern and advanced cardiac hospital established in one of Karachi’s most densely populated districts. “This facility will provide high-quality cardiac treatment and significantly strengthen specialised healthcare services in the province,” he said. Referring to the new wing, Mr Shah said that cardiovascular disease remains one of the greatest health challenges of our time. “Access to timely and specialised cardiac care can mean the difference between life and death. This Cardiac Wing is therefore not merely an expansion of infrastructure; it is an investment in saving lives,” he said. The chief minister expressed appreciation for the quality of construction and advanced health facilities. Highlighting Sindh’s cardiac network, he said that the province already operated National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases with around 2,100 beds, along with 10 cardiac hospitals, 29 Chest Pain Units, 14 Cath Labs and nine cardiac operating theatres. Federal Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb praised the Dawoodi Bohra community’s contribution to Pakistan’s social and economic development and called the new cardiac facility a valuable gift to Karachi. He said that the real benchmark of national progress was not merely economic statistics but the welfare of the poor. The 11-storey wing, construction of which began in early 2022, houses 75 dedicated beds, advanced catheterisation laboratories, specialised cardiac operating theatres, a surgical intensive care unit and a rehabilitation centre.
