Judicial Commission of Pakistan recommends Justice Bajwa as judge of LHC

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Tuesday recommended the confirmation of Additional Judge Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa as a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC). JCP met under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi at the Conference Room of the Supreme Court building and considered the appointment of 10 judges to fill the vacant office in the LHC. It also considered proposed amendments to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (Appointment of Judges) Rules, 2024. Both Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, who represent PTI in the judicial commission, did not attend the meeting. It was decided to circulate the proposals among the remaining members of the commission, including the Federal Shariat Court and high courts, for their consideration and approval. Referring to the LHC, the commission recommended the appointment of 10 nominees as additional judges of the LHC by a majority. They include advocates Amir Ajam Malik, Asad Ali Bajwa, Barrister Muhammad Usman Ghani Rashid Cheema, Ghulam Sarwar Nihang, Khalid Ibn-i-Aziz, Muhammad Ajmal Khan Zahid, Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz, Munawar Iqbal Duggal, Shiren Imran and Syed Farhad Ali. The commission also recommended the appointment of two of the five judges to the Balochistan High Court. They are district and sessions judges Allah Dad Roshan and Abdul Qayyum Lehri, as well as Advocate Muhammad Rauf Atta. Published in Dawn, July 22nd, 2026
