Ambassador Davoli at the UNODC-Ecuador meeting on the fight against organized crime

(ANSA) - QUITO, 09 LUG - The Italian Ambassador to Ecuador, Giovanni Davoli, participated in the “UNODC–Ecuador Partners’ Roundtable” held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Quito. The meeting, chaired by Foreign Minister Roberto Kury and Amado De Andres, regional coordinator of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), was attended by members of the international community who support the United Nations’ “Engagement Plan” in Ecuador to combat organized crime. According to a press release, UNODC representatives cited statistics showing that Ecuador currently ranks fifth among all countries worldwide in terms of the prevalence of criminal violence. Minister Kury noted that the fight against organized crime is a priority for the national government, while Ambassador Davoli emphasized that this effort requires a comprehensive approach that is always grounded in the defense and promotion of the rule of law.
