Visits by Deputy Minister Cirielli to North Macedonia and Kosovo

(ANSA) - SKOPJE / PRISTINA, 09 LUG - Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli undertook a mission to North Macedonia and Kosovo. In Skopje, Cirielli held talks with his counterpart, Zoran Dimitrovski, who reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations and broad prospects for cooperation between Italy and North Macedonia, including through the work of Italian Cooperation in the country. During the meeting, Cirielli reaffirmed Italy’s firm support for Skopje’s European perspective and that of the entire Western Balkans region. They then discussed in depth the challenges and opportunities within the broader regional context of the European Union’s enlargement in the Western Balkans, political stability, security, interconnectivity, and new infrastructure projects of regional significance. The Deputy Minister and his delegation also paid a courtesy call on the staff of the Italian Embassy in Skopje, thanking them for their efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries. During his visit to Kosovo, the Deputy Minister met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Glauk Konjufca. Cirielli reaffirmed Italy’s support for the process of normalizing relations between Serbia and Kosovo, emphasizing the need for both sides to engage constructively in the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, facilitated by the EU. Together with Health Minister Arben Vitia, the Deputy Minister visited the University Clinical Center in Pristina, where he unveiled a plaque commemorating Italian Cooperation’s long-term support for the healthcare facility. L The status and prospects of the cooperation projects were also discussed in depth during a meeting between the Deputy Minister and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) as well as with Italian civil society organizations operating in the country. The mission concluded this morning with a visit to the Italian contingent at the Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU) base as part of the NATO-KFOR mission, highlighting Italy’s fundamental contribution to maintaining the country’s stability and security.
