LARKANA: A fuel station was completely destroyed and many vehicles were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out at the facility along Empire Road in Larkana during the night intervening Saturday and Sunday. The blaze caused panic and chaos as all people present there ran to safety. It swiftly engulfed the entire fuel station and everything present on the premises. No one was killed or injured. Giving details of the incident, Rescue-1122 and police officials said that a van, a car and four motorcycles were gutted as those who had come to the Data Petrol Pump & CNG station had to abandon their vehicles and rush to safety seconds after the blaze started spreading in all directions. Officials at the Market police station said that the preliminary inquiry into the incident suggested that the fire had started from the oil tanker, which was filling the underground fuel tank of the station. They said that all the employees of the station and a number of other people left the site before the flames could reach them. They said the cash, instruments, equipment and paraphernalia present at the facility were reduced to ashes while its underground tank and the entire structure were destroyed. The fire spread a great deal of panic among residents of the nearby area and the commuters passing through the Empire Road. A large number of people had gathered at some distance from the burning station and some of them offered to join the relief and rescue operation. The Rescue-1122 team managed movement of the vehicles and pedestrians in the area that houses Fish Market, Resham Gali and Vegetable Market. Larkana Mayor Anwar Ali Nawaz Luhar, Dari Town Chairman Shahrukh Khan Siyal and officials of the departments and Larkana Municipal Corporation supervised the firefighting and relief operation, which was completed in about three hours before the cooling process was started. Assistant Commissioner Raja Khan Qureshi told media personnel at the site that the cause of fire was yet to be established. He said the deputy commissioner would decide about a formal investigation only after a preliminary inquiry report was submitted to him. Initial findings, however, suggested that a spark in the engine section of the oil tanker triggered the fire that engulfed the entire station and whatever was present at the site.
