Pope needs no further treatment after lung-cancer surgery say doctors
Açıklama
(ANSA) - ROME, 22 OTT - Pope Leo XIV does not require any additional treatment after having lung-cancer surgery last week, his doctors said on Wednesday. The American pontiff was discharged from Rome's Gemelli hospital on Saturday, just four days after an operation to remove lower lobe of his right lung to take out a cancerous nodule. "The final histopathology and molecular testing reports on the tissue removed during the Holy Father's surgery were issued today," Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora said in a statement released by the Vatican. "The results confirmed that the tumour was a lung adenocarcinoma and that the disease was localized. "A subsequent oncological assessment has confirmed that no further treatment is necessary". During his Angelus address on Sunday, the 71-year-old leader of the Catholic Church said he would now "gradually resume my activities" and his weekly general audience in Saint Peter's Square took place as normal on Wednesday. Margaritora, the surgeon who led the team that performed the operation, had previously told Vatican News that he saw "no clinical reasons" why Leo's scheduled 11-day visit to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru next month should not go ahead.
