Tree blown down by storm hits car, killing soldier on way to work
Açıklama
(ANSA) - ROME, 21 OTT - A 46-year-old soldier is dead after his car was hit by a tree blown over by powerful winds while he was driving to work in Jesolo, near Venice, during a storm on Wednesday. Liguria and areas of five other regions, Piedmont, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio and Campania, on Wednesday were on orange alert, which is one notch down from the maximum red, because of a wave of storms that has caused flooding and landslides in several parts of the country. Scientists say the climate crisis caused by human greenhouse gas emissions is making extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, supercharged storms and flooding more frequent and more intense. Although there are many sources of the greenhouse gases that are causing global heating, the main driver is the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal, sales of which generate huge profits for the world's energy giants.
