    (ANSA) - ROME, 03 NOV - President Sergio Mattarella said Tuesday that strengthening NATO and EU common defence is essential today. The world currently finds itself "in a complex situation," facing "multiple, simultaneous, and interdependent crises—geopolitical, economic, climatic, energy-related, and technological—that amplify one another," Mattarella said, speaking at the Quirinale Palace during the presentation of the insignia of the Military Order of Italy. "Consequently, our Armed Forces are operating in critical areas to help ensure, alongside our Allies, the security framework that protects our nation's freedoms and upholds international law against external threats. "In this context, a more concrete and integrated European effort is required—one firmly committed to achieving interoperability among the military assets of EU member states, with the goal of fostering a common defense and strengthening the Atlantic Alliance.
