    (ANSA) - BOGOTA, 15 SET - “Italy has contributed greatly to the development of Latin America,” stated the Italian ambassador to Colombia, Giancarlo Maria Curcio, during the inauguration at the Italian Cultural Institute in Bogotá of the “Mei Experience Cube. “My Roots Are Here,” the multimedia exhibition organized by the National Museum of Italian Emigration (Mei), has arrived in the Colombian capital after stops in Buenos Aires and Lima. The traveling exhibition, which will be open to the public through October 13 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Bogotá, is supported by the Italian Embassy, Com.It.Es. in Colombia, and sponsored by the Italian-Latin American Institute (IILA). During his speech, the Ambassador thanked Paolo Masini, president of the MEI Foundation, for his presence in Bogotá; he expressed his pride in “Italian emigration” and the mark it has left on the continent, “through certain symbols of our Italian identity,” and thanked the Italian community in the country, the descendants of the emigrants, and Colombia for welcoming them with “great affection.” Masini expressed his satisfaction that Colombia is the third country on the continent to host the MEI’s initiative, message, and mission, which, for the occasion, have been transformed into a large cube that takes visitors on a visual tour highlighting the most significant Italians in Colombian history and examining architectural works and monuments created by Italian artists that adorn squares and iconic sites in various cities across the country. “What we want to achieve with this cube—which features highly evocative images, memories, and a wealth of information—is a dynamic narrative that reflects Italian emigration” to the country, said Masini. The Cube is an interactive experience that connects viewers to a story about the cultural ties between the two countries, the value of migration in the cultural sphere, and highlights a series of highly significant figures in that encounter between two worlds, including Oreste Sindici, the Italian maestro who composed the music for the national anthem, and the Domenico brothers, pioneers of cinema in the country. “The deeper meaning of the initiative we are launching today is that talking about emigration doesn’t just mean talking about the past, but about the men and women who left Italy—often with very little—yet knew how to build something important in the country that welcomed them. And it also means remembering that, through these people, a part of Italy has remained here. My roots are here,” said Antonello Caponera, president of the Committee of Italians Abroad (Com.It.Es.) in Colombia. Read article...
