Cop injured after wall collapses during KP govt project's inaugural ceremony in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: A policeman was injured on Sunday after a wall, built recently for an inaugural plaque for an upgradation project of Peshawar’s major routes, collapsed, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also present at the ceremony. Officials said that the police official had been deployed as part of security at the inaugural ceremony, where the KP CM was invited as well. “It happened because of the crowd,” a police official said, adding that the injured cop was shifted to the hospital. The chief minister left the venue after addressing the ceremony for the inauguration of road projects under the Rs200 billion Peshawar Revitalisation Plan. He also attended a separate groundbreaking ceremony of Pishtakhara Chowk Underpass. Roof and building collapses are common across Pakistan, mainly due to poor safety standards and the use of substandard construction materials. Last month, a woman was killed in a roof collapse incident in the Naguman area of the provincial capital, as heavy rain lashed several parts of KP. In July, at least eight people were wounded in Peshawar after heavy rain and strong winds caused roof and wall collapse incidents.
