The Genoa Emigration Museum Arrives in Bogotá with a 'Multimedia Experience'

(ANSA) - SAN PAOLO, 11 SET - Following the success of the Buenos Aires and Lima stops, the international tour of the MEI—National Museum of Italian Emigration—continues in South America and arrives in Colombia. On September 14 at 6:00 p.m., the “MEI Experience Cube” will be inaugurated in Bogotá. This immersive multimedia experience, conceived by the MEI, uses images, testimonials, and audiovisual content to tell the stories of Italian emigration to various countries around the world. According to a press release, the installation will be on view through October 13, 2026, at the Italian Cultural Institute in Bogotá, located at Calle 35 No. 15-32, Barrio La Magdalena. The Colombian leg of the exhibition is hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC), in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, the Committee of Italians Abroad (Com.It.Es.) in Colombia, and ICSAIC, and under the patronage of the Italian-Latin American Institute (IILA). The MEI Experience Cube was created to share the heritage and story of the National Museum of Italian Emigration, based in Genoa, with the world through a format capable of adapting to the various host countries. An immersive journey that focuses on the individual and collective experiences of Italian emigrants, weaving them together with the history, culture, and development of the regions where they chose to live. In Bogotá, the narrative will therefore focus on the relationship between Italy and Colombia and the legacy left by Italians in the country, as illustrated through several particularly significant figures and events. To date, there are 11,634 Italians residing in Colombia. “With the Bogotá stop, we continue a journey that takes the National Museum of Italian Emigration beyond national borders to places where the Italian presence has left a profound mark,” says Paolo Masini, president of the MEI Foundation. “Each country allows us to tell different stories, but they are all part of the same great narrative: that of millions of Italians who, leaving Italy, built new lives and contributed to the growth of the communities that welcomed them. In Colombia, these ties are particularly significant, and the MEI Experience Cube allows us to showcase them through a contemporary, immersive, and accessible medium.” The Oreste Sindici Cultural Association of Ceccano, Roma Tre University’s Department of Architecture, and Professor Maria Margarita Segarra Lagunes, with “Vissi d’arte,” collaborated on the creation of the content. Paolo Masini, president of the MEI Foundation, will be present at the inauguration, having traveled from Italy specifically for the occasion. Representing the Italian Embassy in Colombia will be, among others, Ambassador Giancarlo Maria Curcio, Second Secretary and IIC Regent Marina Zappettini, and Head of the Consular Chancellery Paola Orsini.
