Tunisia: Ambassador Prunas Calls ‘Young Italo-Tunisians a Strategic Resource’

(ANSA) - TUNISI, 10 LUG - Young Italo-Tunisians represent a “fundamental resource” for Italy and Tunisia and can help strengthen economic, professional, and social ties between the two countries. This was emphasized by the Italian Ambassador to Tunis, Alessandro Prunas, during his remarks at the closing event of the project “Young People with Dual Nationality: Mapping Skills for Employment,” held at the Radisson Blu in the Tunisian capital. The initiative, promoted by Comites Tunisia and funded by the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led to the creation of a database of professional profiles of young dual nationals residing in the North African country. Prunas highlighted the strategic role of the new generations of Italo-Tunisians, who possess linguistic, technical, and intercultural skills that can facilitate collaboration between the economic systems on both sides of the Mediterranean. The ambassador also described the project as a concrete example of the bridging role played by Comites between the Italian community and Tunisian society. The mapping initiative targeted young people between the ages of 18 and 35. During the campaign, several hundred applications were received, while 59 resumes have already been selected and uploaded to the digital platform, which can be accessed via the Comites Tunisia website. The database will remain active and can be made available to companies, economic operators, and institutional partners interested in identifying dual-national professionals. The meeting was also attended by the president of UTICA, Samir Majoul, who recalled the memorandum of understanding signed with the president of Comites Tunisia, Sandro Fratini, during the Italy-Tunisia Business Forum on June 24 and 25. Majoul emphasized the need to strengthen the link between education, skills, and the production system, assigning a central role to human capital in bilateral cooperation. Also speaking were Confimprese Italia President Guido D’Amico, President of the Tunisian-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mourad Fradi, and Malek Derbel, a representative of Conect, who emphasized the importance of consolidating synergies among institutions, businesses, and professional networks. According to Fratini and project coordinator Antonino Trimarchi, the platform represents the first step in a process intended to evolve over time, with the goal of facilitating the employment of young people with dual citizenship and promoting the Italian-Tunisian community in a structured manner.
