Italian Ambassador Hosts Meeting of EU Heads of Mission with Irish Defense Leaders

(ANSA) - DUBLINO, 09 LUG - The Italian Ambassador to Ireland, Nicola Faganello, organized this week’s monthly meeting of the heads of mission of EU member states at the European Commission’s office in Dublin, hosting the Chief of Staff of the Irish Defense Forces, General Rossa Mulcahy, for the occasion. Mulcahy outlined the current strategic context and the main challenges to national, European, and international security, focusing on the evolving role of the Irish Defense Forces —a traditionally neutral, non-militaristic country with a limited standing military force—including in the context of cooperation with European and international partners. During the general’s remarks and the subsequent Q&A session with the ambassadors, the three pillars of Ireland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union—“values, security, and competitiveness”—were explored in depth — with particular attention to strengthening “Europe’s security and resilience,” the Union’s response to emerging geopolitical challenges, and the consolidation of cooperation in the defense sector.
